no internet back then, corporate america poured money into the tv networks for advertising. one response from the networks was hiring professional songwriters and vocalists to compose/sing themes. i'd say the 70s/early 80s was the zenith - even the game shows had catchy music.

It’s funny how many older shows had long theme songs to explain the premise of the show. We watched H.R. Pufnstuf recently and it felt like the intro was longer than the show.

I was trying to stay away from songs that were in existence before they became theme songs, so The Sopranos, Golden Girls, and Cheers (while great) were out. Hawaii Five 0 and Peter Gunn are great choices. Also, L.A. Law had a great instrumental theme song.
