I just finished watching the first episode on chicago. I thought it was very well done, and actually got me interested in hearing more of the Foo Fighters new album. I had pretty much written them off 10 years ago.

Where was JORR? I thought he was going to show up at some point

I've never been a fan of Dave Grohl or the Foo Fighters. If I were to describe the band I would call them "competent", which to me is the worst thing you can say about an artist. I heard their "Chicago" song on XRT last night. I think it's called "Something from Nothing". It didn't do anything for me. I also hate Buddy Guy and Naked Raygun. And IKEA furniture.

Fair enough. I still think you might enjoy the Chicago episode of the show.

Yeah. I could never say they were the equal of the Effigies or Articles of Faith or Strike Under. I realize that isn't a prevailing opinion though. So by all means, feel free to watch Pezzati prance about going whoaaaaa-ooooooo at the next Riot Fest. I'll be across the field listening to Kurt Vile.

Bah!!! The Foo Fighters are probably the best American band, ever. I've read JORR's points about Grohl not being emotive or genuine, but all of the shows I've seen live, they put every ounce of themselves into every performance. Even when they did those "garage shows" for 40-60 people, they still killed it!!!

I know music is subjective, but the passion for the music and the performance is undeniable for the Foo Fighters.

I'm not saying Grohl doesn't make an effort. I'm just saying he doesn't have "it". Just because you like music and learn to play instruments and try as hard as you can to be a rock star, it doesn't make you a rock star. Kurt Cobain was a rock star. Dave Grohl is a sideman trying to play a rock star.

I couldn't disagree more.

You ever see them live? Not a youtube video, but at a show?

No. And seeing a band live is certainly different. I'll give you that. I've definitely been caught up in the moment during a live show with bands I don't really like.

I've just never been moved by anything Grohl has done. "Everlong" comes close, but it just misses somehow. I can see how something that comes off as generic on record like "Monkey Wrench" could be powerful live.

There's quite a few that give me chills, but that's me. I'm sure there are a few of your favorites that I probably wouldn't like, either. Such is the quirky beauty of music...

"Best Of You" gave me chills once, when Prince was playing it. I'll give Grohl credit for writing it.

If Dave Grohl weren't our collective surrogate for Kurt Cobain, no one would give a fuck about their vanilla-ass oeuvre. They'd be OAR.

I will admit that "Big Me" is pretty catchy and serves a valuable purpose to XRT when they need to hit top-of-the-hour station identification without going too far over, but I wouldn't make a fucking HBO miniseries about them for it.
