Anyone watch this show? It's now on Hulu to binge. Just finished, and it had it's moments. Just wondering what everyone thought of the final episode. Also, wonder if they bring it back like the Leftovers. That would be interesting...

I haven't watched the show but it is a great book. Stephen King's best in a long time.

Agreed, great book. I'm definitely going to give this a watch sometime this spring. I'll probably try to cram it in during a Hulu free trial.

I watched the first couple. I liked it but it would be hard to top that book. That was my 1st King book I read.

King had been mailing it for a while but that book seemed to put a stop to that. As of late his stuff has been good again.

i really enjoyed it. would have been tough to keep everything for 100% faithful, but i felt any changes made were pretty seamless and didnt hurt the overall story. Id say its definitely the better adaptations of one of his finest works.

i really liked the book "Under the Dome" and was excited for that series, but after that trainwreck i am afraid to watch any more Stephen King adaptations. i may just stick to the book on this one. i can count on one hand the King stories that adapted well to either the big screen or TV in my opinion. I enjoyed Pet Sematary, Shawshank, The Green Mile and i am probably forgetting one or two others.

I see that Hulu is offering a free trial month with Showtime for those interested.

One thing that I would have liked to have seen is an episode to focus more on the time in Jodie. Less Bill would have been great.

Like that the scenes shot on location in Dallas. That museum is such a surreal place. Dealey Plaza feels like it is stuck in 1963.

Good to hear. I am reading now. I like most Stephen King novels and this has been good thus far even though it's early. Love the premise.

"misery", "stand by me", "'salem's lot", "christine", "carrie", "the shining".

you either have a lot of fingers on one hand, or if any of those don't apply, you're just a hater.

even "the stand" was a pretty good adaptation, for a TV movie.

you have a definite point with Misery, and maybe Stand by Me, but you can keep those others. Christine and the Shining are 2 examples of terrible adaptations of the book. Both were great novels that were abused when they were made into movies. I am far from a hater - huge Stephen King fan here, but to say the Shining was a great adaptation of that book is absurd. Kubrick pretty much wiped his ass with the pages of that book.

kubrick took those pages of "the shining" and turned it into one of the horror masterpieces of all time. just because it didn't follow king's narrative doesn't make it a bad adaptation. "forrest gump" is almost unrecognizable from novel to film, and it's a great film and novel respectively.

"christine" didn't seem to stray too far from its source material; and, to me, the concept was campy to begin with. not to mention it was strikingly similar to earlier films like "the car" and even "duel". and both of those predate king's novel, too.

Most movie adaptations of Stephen King's books have generally been bad, with the exceptions of Shawshank, Stand By Me (Not the Title of the King Story), the Shining, Salem's Lot and Hearts in Atlantis. I'm not judging the films based on how closely they followed the book, but whether they were entertaining.

Fire-Starter, Carrie, Green Mile, Under the Dome, Misery, It, Needful Things were not very good. But some of those stories were not very good either, like Fire-Starter. Dead Zone is another book I didn't like. The first 100 pages are so boring, I couldn't finish.

They tried Carrie twice and both underwhelmed, even though the story is interesting.

we are simply on different wavelengths here - i am suggesting a good adaptation to be faithful to the original novel. that is not to say the Shining is not an entertaining move, it is just not very faithful to the original story. Kubrick was not interested in being faithful to the novel, he liked the basic premise and shaped the story into his vision.

Dignified Rube brought up Needful Things - fantastic, expansive story that just didnt translate well to the movie screen.

As a 10 year old, or whatever I was, watching it for the first time, it scared the hell out of me.

I haven't watched it for many years, probably for that reason.

Maybe Max Von Sydow was the wrong guy to play a demon in it after he once played "Jesus".

I'm halfway through the book ( have to do something while big fan is purposely crashing the board he voluntarily gave up control of you know) and its fucking awesome. I don't really see James Franco as Jake but I'll give it a watch when I'm finished reading it.

I enjoyed the book very much.

I'm hoping it holds up to the end. I thought Duma Key was great until the last quarter of the book. So far though I've only liked The Stand better than this .

Read the book four times. Loved it. It's big enough that you can just sort of lose yourself in it.

Kings adaptation of the shinning was terrible though. Kubrick rightfully knew what would translate well to film and what could be done. Kings biggest beef was the casting of Nicholson because he wanted the insanity to be more of a shock, but damn Kubrick nailed it. King changed his tune on the adaptation years after and admitted that his ego was hurt. It was a phenomenal book and a great movie, few books can really translate to film verbatim.

The book was amazing, the TV show was average.

THey were doing a mini-series. THey could have easily followed the book from the start and all would have been fine. Jody should have been covered a lot more.

I have no problems with Franco as an actor, i just thought he was too young to play the part.

It could have been worse. Look for King's original ending online.
