I'm sure it would be improved without the bad voice acting, but the underlying translation also wasn't very good.

and the odds of getting good voice acting with dubbing is about 1 out of 50.

Squid Game is better if you ignore the worst thing about Squid Game. Got it.

Squid game and every other foreign show/movie ever made are better if you opt for subtitles instead of dubbed.

the only time i ever use dubbing is with anime. there are too many visuals to pay attention to that reading the subtitles hinders the experience. and the voice acting usually isn't compromised. but there is definitely a level of cartoonishness...

netflix employees stage a walkout, and ted sarandos says he "screwed up".

Watched the series on the Challenger disaster because I like the “we know something bad is about to happen and here’s how it went down” genre. It was just fine, I had an above average (imho) background on the explosion so there wasn’t much new. Basically 1/2 of it was about the mechanical stuff and 1/2 was about the astronauts. Didn’t have much interest in the astronauts so fast forwarded that part after the 2nd episode.

The dubbing was so bad it added a comic element to the show, and after we turned it off the show seemed less ridiculous (still very ridiculous).

That was my #1 complaint about it. There were other things about Squid Game I didn't like so I don't know if it would change my opinion that it was simply above average and it's already way overhyped.

Anyone who watched this or any foreign show with dubbed English instead of subtitles is a total douchebag. You illiterate or something?

It's not my fault that Netflix did a poor job in translation.

I could overlook it without the other pretty major flaws in the story.

it has nothing to do with translation. when you choose to go dubbed you lose out on the original actors acting. Instead you get second rate scale dub actors who aren't nearly as talented as the originals and who don't fully understand the exact tone and delivery of the lines they are saying.

Shut the fuck up nerd.

So Midnight Mass is basically Salem's Lot?

Through 4 episodes and it's fine so far.

It's Netflix. They take repackaging to a whole new level.

Check out The Motive. The film making is appalling. They even do the shaky camera thing

It was great through three. I finished it off and it was reduced to just good. It was probably 1-2 episodes too long. I could probably devise a long post about it being allegorical for the history of the catholic church but I don't think it is quite worth my time to write or your time to read.

I was disappointed with the trite insight into death of at the end. I thought the writer would be going for deeper.

I think I would have written the vampire to be more like Paradise Lost's, Satan, who has the vision of heaven but whose nature is to corrupt without really understanding that he is corrupting. I would have liked to see him take the altar and seductively explain his plan to get the group to willingly follow him.

I think I would have then exposed the relationship between the priest and Millie to be the corruption of Pruitt's oath that it is. He corrupted himself without apology and bringing the vampire to the island is just another manifestation of the his corrupted state that had existed for decades. Accepting Bev as his assistant well before he left for Israel is another manifestation. Like Milton's Satan, Pruitt was making a heaven of hell.

There is a Season 2, so I guess the vampire did get to the shore. I imagine it will suck.

it's mike flanagan. i think he exposed his superficiality ultimately in his "haunting" series. he's starting to remind me of christopher nolan. an awful lot of dressing for a very bland salad.

The last 3 episodes were meh.

That was a lot of hype for an average show.

I'm 4 episodes into Arcane League of Legends and it's fantastic. Checked out the reviews and it's 10/10 across the board. Based on a video game I never heard of. Cartoon drama series. 9 episodes long.

I would submit that Christopher Nolan is easily the most overrated cinematic figure of the past 50 years.

Most recent season of Narcos was very watchable. I didn’t appreciate we had dueling Netflix threads.

no worries, but we try not to give any undue attention to Hawaiiyou.

Narcos is pretty much the surest bet in TV these days. Every season has been great. Looking forward to checking out the new season when my dance card clears up a bit. Try to limit myself to no more than 2-3 shows at one time. During basketball season i should limit it even further.

Shows lining up in my Q:

Narcos
The Witcher
Hawkeye
Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Shows working on right now:
Queens Gambit (1 ep left)
Arcane League of Legends
Hellbound
Australian Survivor (3 seasons available on Paramount)

Is there a Hulu thread?

Only Murders in the Building is quietly fantastic, pretty much the whole way through...

This time of year forces me to watch more shit television with my wife as I can't just pop on a ball game. And with this goddamn lockout it might be like this all spring. So we started watching this show.
