IMDB has Michael Imperioli listed in the cast (as Christopher). How is that going to work? Some kind of flash-forward with de-aging software?

He's the narrator. "See that young guy with my dad? That's Tony Soprano, the guy who would kill me on Highway 305. But that's a different story."

It was good.

Started slow but picked up nicely, and the end was solid.

More evidence this movies probably good.

I don’t get watching it this morning/during the day. Gonna enjoy it later with a few drinks

It was solid upon first watch.

I’ve always been wholeheartedly confused by what fans expect by 2 hour movies of groundbreaking series like this.

It’s a different story with familiar names and themes. But a different entity altogether.

It felt like fan service at moments but I was ok with that. The acting by the main characters was good.

There’s no bigger shoe to fill than a sopranos prequel and this was definitely serviceable.

I’ll add more thoughts as I watch again and others see it

Imperioli narrates for like 60 seconds max in the film. that's ok.

the casting was terrible.

The guy who played the main character Dickie was invisible. It's like they took an extra and made him the lead. He was not convincing and could not carry this movie.

The guy who played Tony's dad, he is in some other shows ive seen, but it's like a cameo in this film. Wasted opportunity. Ray Liotta was wasted too.

The guy who played Junior was shit too. And they disrespected the entire Junior character in making him some kind of joke. Like a clown. There to make us laugh. To amuse us. Stupid.

Why the fuck was Silvio an old fucking man in this? the timelines don't add up to the series. He character was suppose to be born in 1957 and he's like 40 in the 1960s in this movie. WTF?

Wandering movie. No real plot. didnt care for any of the characters. So disinterested at the end.

oh yeah.... David Chase really hates African Americans doesnt he? That's the one consistent thing from the Sopranos to this movie. Fuck him and his arrogant ass. Telling us to watch this shit in the movie theaters. Glad I didn't. I would have fallen alseep.

Great movie no, but it tied a lot of Sopranos storylines together. I thought casting was very good overall and the story, while a bit disjointed did come back together at the end to make it a relatively enjoyable experience. The timeline is a bit janky but I’m willing to suspend disbelief as it’s not a documentary. I have a few more thoughts specifically on the Liotta roles but I’ll let more see it first before laying my shitty theory out there. I thought it was obvious. As I mentioned before, Chase threw out the idea of doing a Tony in his 20s episodic movie which would be really interesting. They seemed to leave it wide open.

This movie was fucking great. Met my high expectations. Can’t imagine what more anyone would’ve wanted without it turning into fanfiction.

Just so much good shit.

If I had to bitch I would say the movie could’ve used another 30-60 minutes and I could’ve used more Dickie/Ray Liotta scenes

I’ve been souring on him the last few years with his insistence on forcing his politics into reviews, that said, Sepinwall did this movie justice with his review

Incredible assortment of bad thoughts.

The “plot” was to provide back story. That’s really it.

Chrissy definitely narrated more than 60 seconds dude. In fact, his narration literally book-ended the film and helped tie the events shown here to the original series.

What were you hoping for? I really don’t get how fans are legitimately “disappointed” by these movies 15-20 years after the original series ended. Take it for what it is and keep it moving.

i haven't seen this yet, so, i can't comment on the many saints of newark.

i was a fan of the series and i remember tony's driver's license when he was pulled over by officer charles s. dutton and then another episode where carmela told arresting officers that tony was 3 when jfk was shot. according to the driver's license, carmela was off by 1 year.

so, if tony's kid is playing a 12-13 y/o tony soprano, i can see where the timeline is off.

You'd have to be pretty dumb to read The Sopranos' use of black people as scapegoats for Italian murders as "wuhhhh, David Chase hates black people," but then HawaiiYou is pretty dumb.

Loved it. I thought it was very well done.

The Rolling Stone article FF posted is also really good and provides a nice recap to it all.

It does seem to lend itself to another movie or series that would connect the end of this movie to the start of the Sopranos.

And as usual around here HY is an idiot

I think my favorite line is when they introduced baby Christopher and Junior said “I hear he’s slow with the talking that one”

I'm having trouble with retconning Silvio to be an older mentor to Tony and not a peer. Timeline got fucked up, indeed.

Yeah that was probably the biggest issue I had with it. The movie made it like Silvio and Paulie were older mentors to Tony whereas the the show made it seem more like Silvio and Tony were more peers.

I always assumed Paulie and Silvio were older but not any more than 10 years. I thought it was hilarious when Silvio had his hair issue in the garage after drilling on that guy
