Anyways, yeah, it was just the both of them looking at Cersei while she was being smug. Little does she know that her fortunes shall soon change for the worse! Same with her father.

Don't we have a book thread for stuff like this? I mean, I don't care because I've gone on the "Song of Ice..." wiki and looked a lot of this stuff up but for people who just want to talk about the show, which is what I thought this thread was, crap like that is a huge spoiler (no matter how vague you want to be about it).

Well im fucking sorry!

Pretty please forgive me, I forgot you were Captain Perfect!

Not perfect and never claimed to be...just pointing out that some people maybe would like to keep this thread spoiler free (and if you feel so compelled to post spoilers, at least do some editing magic to make it that people have to work a bit to see them).

The 6th Sense, Fight Club, Seven, The Empire Strikes Back, Planet of the Apes, Psycho, and The Usual Suspects must have been very thrilling for you.

Yeah, but they didn't invent the internet. It existed before that even came into existence.

But enough nerd talk in here clogging up the Game Of Thrones discussion.

So you liked getting surprised by movies back then? Seven was a popular, I'm sure many people on campus would have seen the movie. Why not ask them how it ended?

Agreed. They changed storylines for Pyp and Gren, but that's ok, they were basically just sent away to do nothing in the books. At least this way they get an ending.

Also, what's her name with the baby wasn't at Castle Black during the invasion in the books, but once again no big deal there.

One change I didn't like was having the boy kill the red head. In the book it was Jon Snow who felled her with an arrow (not knowing it was her he was shooting at), I like that better.

I thought in the book that the arrow didnt have the same color fletching on it so he knew it wasnt one of his.

Either way, the changes didnt do anything terrible to the story. Jon still took over the wall when needed to. The only thing it did was probably change Slynt's storyline a little bit and it made Thorne a much more likeable character IMO.

Yeah, I believe in the books it isn't known who killed her, but that it was NOT Jon Snow.

That would have been interesting if he had made a shadowy shot and found out he killed her. I was happy with the episode
overall even though I didn't care that much about The Wall. I understand the importance at this point I think.

ygritte's death in the book moved me a lot more than in the show but that's not a knock on the show. you could only do so much with that romeo and juliet-esque romance without getting inside their heads. you could feel what snow felt for her a lot more in the book, i think.

the finale should be damn epic.

It should be, but what is left for season 4 after what happens in the finale? Not as many shockers unless they speed up some storylines.

I can think of one HUGE plot point that will happen in the next episode.

Sorry I meant season 5 (I forgot this is season 4). Yea there are two major events to happen yet next week. I suppose they are combining material from books 4 and 5 for next season so they can get some good stuff, just nothing like the past two seasons.

I can think of at least 4 or 5 things that still need to happen to wrap up the book 3 storylines but I don't think there's enough time for everything since at least 3 of those things are pretty shocking moments that I think need room to breathe. I think you're right about books 4 and 5 getting mashed together next season, along with the wrapping up of the remaining loose ends from book 3, since AFFC and ADWD take place concurrently.

I'm worried that they just aren't going to have enough interesting material for the next season or two because the 4th and 5th books just aren't as interesting. The previous seasons have really had a lot of exciting developments to keep people interested but I don't know how they're going to mine enough interesting material from those two books to form more than one good season. I say more than one because, while there's not a ton of explosive development, there is still quite a bit of stage setting to be done for what is to come after and I'm not sure that they could get all the pieces into place in only 10 episodes. Also, HBO runs a pretty tight schedule with GoT and if they shot through most of the book 4 and 5 stuff in one season that would put the show at roughly the same point that the books are right now. It's entirely possible that Martin could finish Winds of Winter before that point but you can't bank on that. This has been an awesome season but the next season or two are going to be a challenge and finishing the show under the current schedule could be impossible unless they break off from the book series.

The creators of the show know how GRRM wants to end the series so they will just move on with whatever information they have for seasons five and beyond. I'm fine with HBO handling it. GRRM isn't going to finish this series. He'd have done it by now if he knew what the resolution was.

I doubt that Martin knows how to finish the book either and that's my concern. If he doesn't know how to end it in a way that fits, why should I have confidence that he showrunners can do it? They've done great work but I'm not sure how they'll do creating entire original storyline building off the mess that Martin left. Just knowing approximately where Martin wants to end it doesn't necessarily make getting there an easier task.

no, he knew how he wanted to finish the books. the problem is that he extended them beyond what he originally foresaw. the red wedding was intended to be the concluding event to the story. and you can see how the story starts to wither after that happens, and then collapses during DWD (or at least, stays in absolute limbo). he's fishing from now on...he's in a david chase like scenario and so he's making some weird shit up as he goes along...i don't know. i still think he has a great gift for writing but he is fucking his own story up and that's a shame.

Whoa! I watched last night before I went to bed. Will need to rewatch once more so I don't miss anything.
Thought it was a great finale and wrapped up a number of storylines or at least got us back to a stage
where we cared what was happening with some storylines that I thought were dragging ( Ayra, Bran ).
I have some questions that arose from this episode but I will wait a few days and see if they get fleshed
out. I want to make sure everyone has a chance to see the show after what was likely a busy weekend
for many of you.

I thought this was a great season. It was my favorite so far.

I'm just concerned in that reading this thread that it sounds like the show pretty much sucks after this. I don't want any major spoilers but should I pretty much much lower my expectations now?

What was with the Brienne/Hound fight? It was kind of cool and it does shave off a lot of boring shit from her chapters.

Apparently Jojen and Coldhands are not important characters. Thanks for wasting all my time north of the wall you stupid fat fuck.

I'm curious how they are going to introduce the Ironborn more for next season. None of the principal characters have been discussed at all yet.

Everyone else has said it already. Martin has no clue where to go next so I think starting with next season you are going to see significant major changes from the book storylines.

I dont think so Rick. I think this is where the show starts to take over from the book. It's going to reduce a lot of stupid shit in books 4 and 5 and start to build up to whatever vision Martin might have for how he wants it all to end.

The short answer is yes. The slightly longer answer is that while there are some very interesting story lines in books four and five I don't think that they will translate all that well on television. I'm thinking of Cersei's story line specifically here.
