I'm so sick of the pandering TDAmeritrade ads with the woman detailing her too busy day filled with compliance meetings, tai chi, baseball practice and 9:43pm where she's making lunch for her little vegan..."and well you Know  " to her earnest and compassionate  investment guy

They've recut the hell out of that commercial. I feel vindicated

Bob Rohrman seems to be more or less off his own spots, finally, but now his lieutenants are doing the reads instead. Same with Mike Muller, come to think of it. The "here's Mike Muller" guy died a few months ago, though. Used to be a friend of the family.

Kaplan does commercials with personal injury lawyer "The Illinois Hammer" Bradly Dworkin. Both Dworkin's last name and his nickname are awkward.

I love how Rohrman's dealerships are named for a tonier nearby suburb, with the actual dealership location tacked on (e.g., "Arlington Lexus in Palatine" or "Oak Brook Toyota in Westmont"). Maybe he should open a Sleepy Hollow Subaru in Elgin.

Speaking of cars, Drive Chicago is running some new ads that make it sound like the tax laws regarding leasing just recently changed. The law changed Jan 1, 2015.

"The LEASE you can do? Fuck you!"

In one of the IMS commercials Danny Zederman refers to himself as "Scholar and Lecturer at Illinois Media School."

There's a commercial for Geico roadside assistance. Family gets a flat tire and the wife doesn't allow a word or move by the emasculated husband but gets on her phone to get a repairman to come fix it.

Stupid sitcom dad is one thing, but now commercials are telling the world that American men are too useless to even change a tire?

What's with these lawyers and their nicknames? There's also the motorcycle rockabilly lawyer Joel Raab who calls himself the "Hebrew Hammer". dolphin, do you have an intimidating nickname? How about the Sauganash Slasher? But I suppose nicknames are only for slip and fall guys.

Wasn't that an Adam Corolla movie?

Also, Puppy Monkey Baby is the worst commercial that has ever been made.

I think was a TV show starring that guy that gets his ass kicked by Clint in Dazed and Confused.

Well, to be fair, if that Lexus dealership is where I think it is (somewhere on Dundee between Rand and 53), that's one of those areas that feels like not quite Palatine but not quite Arlington Heights and I would have to look at a map to see which side of the zigzagging line it's on. But this goes back to a point I've made several times about this local neurosis of which suburbs are marginally better than others next to them.

Oh, and Bob is back on the beat, just as slurry as he was before he stopped.

Wait, wait. A Subaru dealership just opened in Elgin. I am kind of pissed that Elgin gets two bites at the car dealership row. They have Irving Park Rd, and now they're opening stuff on Randall. And yes, those Randall dealerships would be Sleepy Hollow. I can't figure how Elgin "stole" all that land such that it extends all the way to Rte 72 north of I-90. It is literally touching W Dundee, Gilberts, Pingree Grove and Sleepy Hollow. That town goes from nearly Rte 59 out to Rte 47. Think of the distance between those exits on I-90.

Our first apartment was behind that dealership. We moved there because they allowed large dogs.

Palatine used to be the butt end of Arlington Heights, but as they built stuff near Inverness and around their downtown, it has a much better reputation these days.

those State Farm ads about what people can do on the radio are some of the worst. First one, a woman drops dead. Second one, the guy is setting off ordinances right next to the agent. Not sure if they hired the actual state farm agents or voice actors, but they sound extremely stilted reading off the script. And in the end, I'm still not sure what they're selling...

The only people who think Arlington Heights is an elite suburb are those who live there.

I've always thought of the Cook County panhandle, outside of the Barringtons or the crappier parts of Wheeling, as being about as suburbia qua suburbia as Chicagoland gets.

It's Schaumburg with a downtown area. The housing stock is pretty similar albeit Arlington Heights does have some historic stuff.

I'd add that Arlington Heights is mostly on a grid while Schaumburg is all crescents and cul-de-sacs.
