Kirkwood, question, when Cohle first meets up with Ginger, the biker group says that their leader Miles will be pissed to see Cohle again. Why would Miles be pissed to see a guy who was supposed to be dead?

I can't believe that Cohle is somehow the good guy. Too many people have pointed out that they see evil in him. At best he could be a vigilante cop because otherwise he would not have covered up LaDeux's real death.

I think the biker scenes were just to establish how deep Rust went undercover and how messed up he's is willing to go. Also a way to connect to Ledoux and find his compound.

Rust seems to either be still undercover or part of the cult. When Tuttle offered to have the clerk show him the Wellspring material, he said something like another time. Why wouldn't he want to see it right away? It's almost like he went to see Tuttle just so he would get fired. Like a reason to leave the force.

I assumed he was just using the files as pretext so he could interview Tuttle and get a read on him.

Getting back to the "Flat circle" theme.

Marty was at a bar where the hot ex hooker came to pick him up, she ordered a "dirty martini". Marty's wife went out to a bar to pick up a dude before she decided she'd rather fuck Rust. She ordered a "dirty martini" as well.

Also, the ex hooker asked Marty for anal. Meanwhile, Rust gave Marty's wife anal.

What does that mean, boys?

And they both look alike. Marty is probably going to blow 2012's version of Reggie LeDoux's head off before the season is over.

Girls that order "dirty martinis" is code for them wanting anal sex.

Maggie got hers "extra dirty". But I don't think she and Rust had anal.

They absolutely had anal. Not just cuz of the tie in with marty's hooker asking for anal, but also because of Rust's words to the detectives about his thoughts on breeding. He came to think this way after his daughter died.

The hubris it must take to yank a soul out of non existence, into this, meat. And to force a life into this, thresher. Yeah so my daughter, she uh, she spared me the sin of being a father.

No way he would risk getting her pregnant.

So it had to be anal. He didn't have a condom. He wasn't expecting sex that night. It happened so quick. He doesn't want to have kids. He told Marty in the first episode that people should stop procreating and walk hand-in-hand into extinction.

I win. You lose, Doc.

I'm going to go out on a limb here (while also utilizing my cunning powers of deduction) and declare that Rust and Maggie did not have anal sex. For one, no lube was used. Shit, he didn't even give a courtesy lick/spit to the ol' rusty balloon knot. Two, no way Maggie is that hot for Rust to get sloppy enough to negate the need for number one.

Rust also said something about children being the only reason for existence.

I win.

Plus, I bet she did have his kid from that. But I hope I'm wrong because that would be crappy writing.

Did you notice the black detectives didn't call her Mrs. Hart? It was Mrs. Sawyer or something like that. She must have remarried.

1. I've never been fucked by a dude but I don't imagine a woman considers under a minute to be an eye rolling time.

2. Neither of those women look like teenagers. Even there timeline on the show indicates they are not. I was kind of shocked to see Daddario is pushing 30. The other one was 16 when they interviewed her over a decade ago.

Not to be an anal agitator but I think you are displaying some unfamiliarity with the subject matter

but, to make the metaphor work, he did make her leave through the back door

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere. She enters his apartment through one door and leaves through another.

Telios de Lorca does not exist. There is no 12th century Franciscan mystic of that name. I don't think the writer made that name up. That really doesn't seem to be his style. Is the fallen preacher lying, drunk, forgetting or is something else going on there?

I'm confident Marty isn't directly involved with the Yellow King and cult (Sure, indirectly with his daughters being abused or something). I believe the coincidences or actions people are connecting are red herrings. This show is getting overanalyzed like crazy so it’s fun to read people’s theories. But if its revealed Marty is knowingly involved in the conspiracy in the next two episodes I’ll be very disappointed. Marty has been written as a sloppy, impulsive, undisciplined character. That doesn’t jibe with a murderer or criminal mastermind.

I have a feeling this is going to be Pizzolato's only significant work in his career.

This is my own theory: Rust will die. He foreshadowed it in the first episode when Marty was finally getting to know him in that car ride. Marty asked Rust if he was a Christian because Marty saw the crucifix in Rust's apartment.

Rust said he's not a Christian. Says he uses the crucifix as a form of meditation.

"I contemplate the moment in the garden, the idea of allowing your own crucifixion.”

Rust is Jesus in this show. He's sacrificing his life to save the poor victims of Louisiana from the corrupt politicians, law enforcement and church leaders.

Though Rust is by no means a good person. He once said the world needs bad men like him to stop the other bad men from getting to the door. So Rust is a "Bad ass Jesus". But he's Jesus none the less. He'll do some evil for the greater good.

Also, the final scene in the last episode symbolized Marty's relationship with Rust.

Rust asked if he could buy Marty a beer. What was Marty's response? "I'll follow you." Just like Marty always did when they were partners for 7 years. Then Rust felt the need to show that he's the alpha male, like he always did with Marty, by saying "Actually, you can buy me a beer."

I thought he was showing him that he didn't have enough money to buy Marty a beer. I wonder if he will order a Heineken

He told Marty to buy him a beer after stepping back and seeing his Cadillac CTS and figuring he was a man of means.

Nic Pizzolatto has already been the lead writer for The Killing, which had many brilliant scenes--and plenty of red herrings. The problem with The Killing is that it had a brilliant setup (not to mention one of TV's all-time great characters in Detective Holder) and an incredibly disappointing finish. Let's hope True Detective doesn't suffer from the same fate.

Pizzolatto is also the author of an acclaimed novel that I have been quite interested in reading for a while.

I am pretty sure True Detective is his first work for television. His novel is called Galveston but I had never heard that it was acclaimed
