What is dead can never die, but rises again, harder and stronger.

Overall I thought they did a good job with what constraints they had working against them. Lack of Direwolves was very frustrating because they are such a central theme to the main story and someone who hasn't read the books doesn't realize that. Also the lack of time and distance reference was annoying.

They did nicely closing out this season with resolution and setting up next season's storylines. And the Theon push continues :D Dragons were also done really well - I was concerned about that.

They do have a bigger budget for next year but shit they could blow that on the Battle of the Blackwater alone. They aren't going to be able to get away not showing important battles like they did this year. It was borderline criminal they didn't show the Whispering Wood and why that was so significant... not to mention Grey Wind ripping throats out.

Next season is only 10 episodes also - once they get to Storm of Swords no way they can contain that in 10 episodes. 14 at a minimum and 16 -18 to really do it justice. Also they can't split up Feast and Dance if it gets that far. Those will have to be intermingled seasons.

If you have watched the series and enjoyed it there is really no reason to not go out and read the books.

The night is dark and full of terrors.

welp i've gotten through four episodes thus far, and suffice to say lady stark just established herself as a cold-ass bitch by getting everyone in the inn to pledge allegiance then draw swords on the dwarf.

thus far, i find myself pulling for the dwarf. i'm going on the asshole factor and that's how i've determined how i'm going to root for who dies a bloody and painful death.

that said, can't wait to see that blonde dude on the other side of the sea get it. you can tell his sister's gonna run that shit by the end of the season and he's gonna be what the spanglish call "el fuckedo"

i wonder if they'll actually mix things up between "clash" and "storm" and blend some things together, jump ahead kind of like they did in this. 10 episodes for "clash" may bore people to tears because there is just so much set up for "storm".

jackref's right though that 10 won't do justice for "storm" because it's chock full of action and 10 episodes won't hold it all. i do wonder if the show loses viewers just because there is very little justice that i would think people would expect after what happened at the end of the first season.

i think they're gonna jump all over it like fred savage in "the princess bride" to his grandfather.

True dat... that thing should be LOTR epic... but I worry that they will make it lame. This isn't a book about wars, though. It's about intrigue. But the Battle of Blackwater is so central that they need to do it right.

Me too. He is clearly one of the best written characters in the books or on the tube. I will say that without any spoilers that you will be very interested to see the man that Jaime becomes.

But most of all, I'm kinda curious to see how they portray the Bloody Mummers... now they were creepy and badass.

oh yeah, i just tore through the rest of the series and finished up episode 10 just now (thank god for IT jobs, eh?) and yeah, the blond guy got crowned in a way that dennis green would approve of.

SPOILERS COMMENCE FROM HERE ON OUT! it's been like 3-4 days since the last one aired and anyone coming to this thread now prolly knows what awaits them (much like i didn't really read the thread as much as i dropped in to say i was on board)

even tho i know 4 books have been written and the 5th is due out, out of something like 7, i've done my best to keep the general story under wraps as i'm very probably not going to go ahead and read the books so i can save some proper television for next year, and beyond that... hell i've STILL got like 200-300 pages of the illuminatus! trilogy left and that's just about my favorite book ever (it's so good that i wanna save the pages for when i need them... i think i deferred jury duty til right around now so when i get the summons i'm good and proper)

anyways, with this series and the season i've watched, there's two camps to divide people into:

the str8up motherfuckers: the dwarf, the starks, the dragon queen, her whiteboy from the 7 kingdoms side of the matter, the bastard jon snow, the fat kid who rolls with him, so on and so forth. most of the northerners seems aight, but then again we're slanted to think that... for some odd reason i think that as mud hinted jaime lannister could have a face turn, and i think that in the end the dwarf is a pretty cool guy who doesn't afraid of anything. i just hope he hasn't been killed off already.

the bitchmade motherfuckers who i cheer for their swift and systematic death: first and foremost, that annoying kid from catelyn stark's family... the one who was like 10 and sucking on his mommy's teat when we first met him... even moreso than "king" joffrey, holy shit do i want to see that kid die. let "the bad people" get him... then joffrey, but i figure there's no way he can survive another season or two, the show/books have done a good job of setting everything up where you see how treacherous the game of thrones is and i just can't see him living for all that long.... someone's going to get to him. and then it might not matter cuz if winter ever shows up or the dragon queen shows up as the newfound khal (that khaleeesta word or whatever it is for queen has to be a reference to "kallisti" or "the most beautiful" which goes to show my illuminatus! trilogy love) they are fucked... tho i bet they're gonna drag it out with her cuz she prolly has to get some same-continent conquesting down before she raids teh seven kingdoms... i also don't know how long it takes a dragon to grow up, but i reckon we're gonna have to wait til there's a bunch of fully-grown dragons before the series erupts in a cavalcade of "oh shit" moments

basically, the show is a nice lil guilty pleasure cuz it does the whole fantasy thing without a heaping helping of fairytale crap going on with it. people die fairly often, and unlike many other novels like, they actually fuck over the major characters so i reckon there's going to be a nice hearty turnover as this series matures... all the pressure is gonna be on this author dude to crank these out, so we'll see how he does now that this series has shone a light on him and really put him in a position where his new books will be met with the kind of enthusiasm as did the harry potters, just not quite as big and campy.

all and all, it was indeed worth my time... the nudity never hurts, and this series has done a masterful job of setting up rooting interests (the dwarf, the little stark girl/now-"boy", or hell, basically the whole stark clan cuz that family seems to be comprised of the realest motherfuckers in the seven kingdoms, aside from the dwarf, who you can tell allowed his dwarfism to humanize him beyond the standard lannister bankroll, so he's like the best of both worlds... i was like "hell yeah" when he saved lady stark early on during his imprisonment cuz he knows he was innocent and deep down he knows the starks are honorable and understood what they're doing, even tho he was about to be treated like shit... god i hope he oversees that kid there dying...

and the #1 question i wonder... how is catelyn's sister still lactating enough to breast-feed a 10 year old kid? "the seed is strong" my ass, that kid deserves a horrible death and i pray that the author agrees with me and has supplied one by now... although he might survive cuz i have a feeling the north is going to do their thing for awhile... at least until the magical beasts from beyond the wall show up, or the dragon queen says "O HAI GUISE, REMEMBER ME?!?!!"

i'm just babbling now... 'twas a fun romp tearing through these in a marathon and worth my time... can't say i'll be jumping on each and every episode like i would with doctor who and quite-probably torchwood (hey it's almost july... roughly 2 weeks til miracle day, guys!) but i'm in for this series and might even have to get to the books someday if this series ends up having to take gaps to let some of the actors age or wait for some new book material... i've read a whole lot about how this series is so faithful to the books that i reckon it's prolly gonna take the better part of a decade or even longer to get all of the material on screen.

anyways, back to being the CSFMB's stupidest poster. i live to give RFDC his +1's

sini I never even gave a second thought to how Lysa was able to lactate. I was just disgusted by it.

i thought that if a woman continues to breast feed...the breast will continue to feed.

(plus...it's sci-fi/fantasy. we're o.k. with the whole baby dragons crawling over the blonde chick who can't be burned...but, breast feeding a 10 year old you can't wrap your head around?)

jackref wrote:

That...right there, is why these types of books are rarely made into movies or film. There is so much information in the story set-up in sci-fi/fantasy that movies/shows are 3/10 hours long. Even then, there is always so much missing.

if you were to do that unilaterally across the board, then there's no reason that this messageboard should exist.

semi-tangentially, even tho i'm "battle-hardened" from posting on dialup/internet BBSes going back to 1994, it still gets to me that a good % of people love to claim that any "long winded" response is simply all "filler" and saying nothing. ironically, it usually comes with some sort of affirmation of the fact that said adjudicator of all-that-is-correct-and-thusly-holy didn't even read the tripe drivel that they stand so firmly against.

you know, there is such a thing as a "stream of consciousness" type of posting where one literally sits down and unleashes all of their thoughts in a semi-/disorganized fashion as if they were simply conveying the thoughts that popped up naturally in their brain. speaking from the position of someone who's been re/known to do that, i can tell you that there isn't some grandiose plan of treachery or trollery involved.... really, i was just saying what was on my mind.

then again, my fundamental disconnect with reality can be epitomized by coming to a "messageboard" to share one's thoughts and views. clearly, messageboards serve a higher purpose that only those bestowed with the gift of brevity can truly understand.

Casting for Season 2 is underway.

And T-minus 4 days until the next book.

yeah she can pass as "TV ugly".

brienne is awesome. i hope they represent her well. and boy did she love lord renley.

almost finished with "storm". should finish it tonight. i'll pick up "feast" this weekend, though based on what i've seen people's thoughts, i don't know that i'll enjoy it.

You will. You are smarter than the average bear WZ and you will understand what Martin is doing. I have about 30 pages left on my reread of it and it really is some top notch writing. The Brienne storyline seems to meander but it does get you somewhere and it may only be that she is the POV vehicle to tell another's story. If you thought you hated Cersei before, well buckle up :) And finally getting a glimpse into Dorne and their reasons for doing, or not doing if you are a Sand Snake sympathizer. Doran Martell is up there with Tyrion and Littlefinger as top notch players. Heck you are in a lucky position where you could read Feast and Dance simultaneously and how it was meant to be read. Just alternate chapters between books! :)

Brienne's character is awesome. That casting decision doesn't look how I imagined. Waaaay too skinny. You need to have much broader shoulders to haul around that armor. I kinda imagined a Division 1 Women's Softball Player, but about a foot taller.

it's amazing how it worked out that way; i thought these books would take me forever because i'm normally a slow reader. i don't like to read too fast because i'll usually miss something. but these books have really gone by quick.

i know cersei's one of the POV's in "feast" and that'll be something. christ i hate that bitch.

but "storm"...wow. all i can say is, it's one of the best books i've ever read (now only have about 60 pages left). martin's a hell of a writer.

Feast isnt as bad as I thought it was originally, I am also re-reading it to get ready for the new book. It just seems bad on the first read because I started right after Storm and that book is just too awesome to compare.

Feast's biggest problem is that it followed Storm of Swords (with an amazing climactic ending)... it's only half a book and the ending leaves you a little confused at the direction the series is going. Besides, most think that John Snow and Danerys are the two most important characters (debatable) and neither are in Feast.

they may not be the most important but it's hard to argue that they arent 2 of the more interesting story lines.

They've gotta be... because I think they're fated to end up squaring off. Especially once you find out that Jon Snow is Ned's sister's kid with Richard Lannister or something, it'll be his kingdom vs hers and good luck with that.

You should just stop speculating at this point. Come back once you read the books because you only have a tiny bit of info on the meta plot after watching 10 hours of TV.

I've gone past the television series. IIRC, there's only one dude in the whole wide world who knows Jon Snow's proper parenting lineage and they haven't revealed it yet, so I'm going for Eddard Stark raising his sister's kid (even in the TV series, he points out that he has Stark blood in him, as he's pretty careful not to say his own. Maybe he outright says that in the book? I didn't read that once since I saw it) so he grows up properly and honorably as opposed to being a little bitch like Joffrey.

So you are reading the books? Sometimes I am not down with your vernacular so I beg your pardons.

My point is you are speculating on something by only having a tiny frame of reference. It would be like me watching 5 episodes of Sarah Jane Adventures and then telling you whats going to happen in the next Dr Who season.

There are several different possiblities for Jon's parents. Ned's sister is certainly one of them.

there is a "wiki of fire and ice" that basically lays out any info you need, so it's possible to reference stuff there. i've made use of it a few times for anything that i've already read.

for instance, roose bolton. he's double crossed so much i lost track of who he is...especially since there are so many characters with names that start with "B".
