this is the only incarnation of the "Star is Born" remakes i have seen. but i looked them up after seeing it, and it looks like they all use the same formula but have different ways of telling the final act.

it's a very solid film. bradley cooper was very keen on this project. his directing was well done, especially keeping everything very "real" and natural even in an unbelievable type of story. it's very romantic and passionate, and the music was great.

even the steel-souled british pop demon who manages gaga was well portrayed. but cooper and gaga make this film very worthwhile.

this will get a lot of nominations, and sam elliott should be one of them. hell even clay could see a supporting nod.

definitely a great date night movie.

:D :D :D out of :D :D :D :D

Saw this on the weekend. I really wish Lady Gaga ditched the crazy fucked up makeup she does and just went with the "Girl Next Door Look". Her voice is incredible.

Pretty sure I will be seeing it this weekend. I'll go with her to this and she is willing to see First Man with me another time.
Both should be very good.

Think of it as a trade for all the golf you got to play?

She doesn't ask me to do movies all that often so I'll just go along with it. I did get to play 55 rounds of golf this year and she never
said anything so I guess in a way it is a trade off.

This is definitely NOT a CHICK FLICK. In fact, my wife did not like it because of the story line although she thought it was well acted and the music was excellent. It depends on what you like in movies stories.

Saw this last night. I thought the acting was well done for the most part and the cinematography, while different, was very good. Definitely a bit of a letdown toward the end, as I did not expect to be quite as emotionally invested as I was. I wish they had shown Cooper playing more music because his songs and band was pretty good. I enjoy the film overall and was happy I saw it. Like Z, I would give it three out of four stars.

The movie was unbelievably fast and then mind numbingly slow.

Gaga is a better actor than Cooper is a singer

I really enjoyed the concert scenes and the movie is predictable dialogue acting as a bridge between great concerts.

Anyone who thinks it was great storytelling is an easily suggestible, sentimental fool.

I don't know if it was intentional but a lot of it is a reflection of Gaga's career. Ugly, supposedly deep person with something to say who trades it in for vapid pop stardom.

The best line of the movie is when Elliott tells Cooper that he stole his voice because Cooper's portrayal of his character is really an imitation of Sam Elliott. Cooper playing Elliott playing Jackson Maine.

Gaga is clearly a talented singer but I just have no interest in her music. I'm sure she will survive this slight.

I'm still on board with Black KKKlansman as the best movie of the year.

You think Gaga is ugly? I would call her interesting looking. Definitely jolie laide.

Yes, I think she is ugly. She only the mentions the nose in the movie (and I really believe the part about being told she wouldn't be a star comes from personal experience) but she also has a googly eye and masculine facial features. I think everyone would agree if she wasn't a star but I think many people get drunk on the fame.

I can see that Jorr for sure but at the same time see GD's point. Many times makeup, dress and especially attitude can make all the difference to an individual's tastes.

We all have unique tastes. Plenty of Simpsons fans like that extreme overbite look

Throw that face into the objective beauty meter and you will be coming back with a sub five score.

Oh damn, you stuck that Simpsons line in there just as I got ready to reply. Way to run up the score.

It's harder than it should be to find good pictures of her from before she turned herself into an art project but I truly don't think I'm out of my mind on this one.

I wouldnt call her hot, but I wouldnt call her ugly either.

Party of Lady Gaga's "sexiness" is the total package.

Finally saw this last night and it was pretty good. I thought the beginning of the movie was very genuine about how they met and them going to the grocery store and all that. After that, the movie seemed to put their relationship into fast forward and the speed of her success and everything was quite contrived. I realize they need to do this to keep the movie under a certain time frame. It was a good story and well done, I thought Cooper was very good and the directing was solid. Gaga was much better at acting than I expected, although I don't suspect she will be doing a whole lot more acting in non singing type roles.

The timeline was fast, but I also think a decent amount of time passed, without the movie doing anything to really let you know, in between some of the scenes.

Yeah they could have done a bit more to let us know the time passed and the locations. BTW, this morning saw a blurb while dressing that they are releasing again to theaters with 12 min more restored. Not sure what more to add or why any longer.

This movie is unbelievable, ridiculous, and terrible.

First, we're supposed to believe that Jack was loaded off his ass and Ally sang a couple lines of "Shallow" to him. Then he sends a plane to pick her up and calls her up on stage where they sing a duet version so polished it could win an Oscar.

The best unintended joke in the movie is when Sam Elliot's character accuses Jack of "stealing his voice." I laughed out loud since the normally high-pitched Bradley Cooper spends the entire movie talking like Sam Elliot.

That's what I assumed, they should have called it A Turd Was Dropped.

Are you saying that it was actually an inside joke? If so, I suddenly like the movie better.
