Also, I need to ask who is smiling on the career of Tessa Thompson right now? Mediocre actor, mediocre singer, body of boy.

They use this prime franchise like Rocky/Creed to give her a moment for a completely non contextual musical interlude.

If any boxer ever had his new wife lead him out into the ring with mic in hand he would rightly be mocked by the sports and music worlds. But here we go, Creed with the biggest fight of his life, one that was supposed to be a no frills, get back to basics with training in some Mexican cockfighting dojo gets lead out by his small time music career wife. GTFO.

You see that type of thing on tv once in a while where an actor on a hit show is looking to expand a career and negotiates a musical number into his contract. How often do you see this type of indulgence in a hit movie franchise from a bit actress?

Some Illuminati level bullshit is swirling around Thompson's career these days (and I do think she is ok in Westworld).

They're a team, that was the point. Like the Rocky movies, its as much about their relationship as anything. The song was cool, too.

Floyd Mayweather walks out with Bieber and the Burger King, so no, I dont think a boxer would be mocked for having his wife sing I will go to War in the entrance to a huge fight.

There are issues with the movie, but gd has them all wrong.

#1 Too much stuff was rushed. They crammed Rocky 2,3, and 4 into one movie and it showed. The desert scene was barely explained, the Wheeler fight had no build up, and the Drago storyline had a lot of untapped potential

#2 The fight scenes were better in Creed. Coogler's direction was missing.

#3 The ending of the last fight was a good idea, but handled poorly. I love the idea, but they didnt execute it well. It was dragged out and telegraphed instead of the shocker it should have been.

Still a pretty good movie.

No more (and probably a lot less) a team than Adrien and Rocky, Mary Anne and Apollo or Ludmilla and Drago, all of whom I believe walked out with their spouse but none who were allowed to warble.

When Mayweather lets The Biebs sing him to the ring, he will be mocked. Otherwise, The Biebs is just an accessory like if he walked to the ring with a midget.

It looked ridiculous, awkward and shoe horned for an entry that should have been minimalist within the context of the film. Creed's training was entirely analogous to Rocky's training for Drago and really much of the movie was meant to be analogous to the Rocky story.

Apollo died because he treated the fight with Drago as too much of a show. Rocky learned that lesson and here he is walking out:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJc5hd62C44

If you were to continue the analogy, along with the overarching theme of children fighting a father's fight, Creed would have entered Mike Tyson style to keep the integrity of the movie.

I thought Dolph looked pretty good, but Brigitte looked heinous.

It's one of those situations where there are some parts about the movie that you don't like but then it's so good and gets into all of your feelings at the end that you forget those less important parts. I personally would have liked more interaction with Little Duke and how him and Rocky decided to team up this time around.

I like Tessa Thompson because she's pretty in a "girl next door way". Someone you may see in an elevator. It makes her relatable. Not some exotic Kardashian looking chick with fake parts.

No way you can say the Creed fights are just fights. The last fight in Creed 2 especially tells a story

They could have had midgets fighting and I would have loved it. I agree with you about Thompson. Having a woman with a regular woman look sells. It's why Adrian made sense for the original Rocky.

If I slightly complained about this one it would be the over reliance of nostalgia in the script. After the first movie I believe that Creed could stand on its own without needing to primarily use scripts from other Rocky movies. Keep Rocky and play a few flashbacks. Fortunately they can't recreate Rocky V because it sucks.

Truth. I don't know if there is another movie that gets me going like Rocky does every single time.

That is the positive side of things being crammed into creed 2. Creed 3 is going to have to stand on its own and i agree it can.

No, it was awesome. These movies are not remakes, they are updated versions of Rocky.

Also, while it was a nod to his training in Russia, it was hardly a 1:1 analogy. There was a lot more involved in Rocky's Russia training (cold war...chaperones) that had nothing to do with this film.

Im going to have to revoke your Rocky fan card at this point. That is completely ridiculous. Apollo didnt die because he put on too much of a show. He died because he was old and over the hill. He could have trained for years and taken the fight seriously and he was still going to get mauled.

Your fundamental misunderstanding of Rocky IV has betrayed you here.

Also, Rocky never walked into music. So his entrance in IV is not unique in that way.

Yea, that makes no sense.

Essentially, you dont like Tessa Thompson and the movie wasnt enough of a Rocky remake for your liking. That's fine.

Yea, Little Duke hasn't had a good showing in these movies.

It was like Rocky had to rescue him. Didn't care for that.

But his Awww shit after Rocky says "we just wont let it get to the judges" was awesome.

SUPER SPOILER BELOW. SERIOUSLY.

So, as far as Ivan throwing in the towel. I LOVE the idea, but the execution was poor. To show Ivan considering it, then stepping up on the apron, then FINALLY throwing the towel made it a bit anti climactic.

Im no director, but it seems to me that would have carried more weight and done more for shock/twist appeal to just show the towel flying in and then pan out to see Ivan having stopped it. Showing all the steps kinda ruined it, imo.

My daughter hated Mrs. Drago more than Ivan after watching IV. Proud moment with her realizing who the TRUE villain was.

I haven't seen Phylicia Rashaad mentioned in here yet. She is the glue to the story in just about every role I have ever seen her cast. The same holds true here. There is something about her that is so absolutely genuine that even the stink of Cosby could not dilute. Nice looking in her older age as well.

You misunderstood a lot about Rocky IV and the fact that you suggested that Adrian or Mary Anne EVER accompanied their husbands to the ring proves it. You based half of your theory on that and it's demonstrably false. I'm not going to re-write the post but your thought that Apollo lost because he put on the show is embarrassing.

So yes, the movie wasnt a perfect analogy to the Rocky IV you remember (that doesn't really exist)

This should have been Creed 3

Creed 2 could have been the build up to Wheeler, Rocky and Mary Anne reuniting (Oscar Clip), Creed dealing with his new found fame.

Instead that was all fit into the first 3 minutes after the credits.

Can you screenshot the part where she is in the ring? I cant find it. She is in the backstage area with him, but she does not accompany him to the ring.'

That is linked to a shot of Rocky, Duke and Paulie walking down the aisle. No Adrian in sight.

And can you also show me where Mary anne and Ludmilla accompanied their husbands?

A true Rocky fan knows that not only did Mary Anne not accompany Apollo, but she was far more upset when he lost the title to Rocky in 2 than when he lost his life in 4 if you compare the reactions side by side.

Let me add, that if you told me ahead of time that Creed would come out to a female singing, Id have thought it was terrible, but I thought that song and that entrance was perfect.

BTW, I would 100% see a movie called "Viktor" about the Dragos from 85-present

Are you arguing that Ludmilla, out of all the spouses of all the fighters in all the movies, was not the most obvious example of a partner to her husband?

You yourself argue she is the villain of IV. She is hated because she insinuates herself in her husband's career.

I was kind of surprised not to see Bill Conti's name listed in the credits for Gonna Fly Now and other themes the composer used in this movie. I know there was new music, but Conti's themes were very evident. I figured they would do like they did with Rogue One ("music by Michael Giacchino, original music by John Williams"). The importance of the original Conti music to the franchise cannot be overstated.

I'm kind of with Dolphin in thinking having her sing to his entrance seemed out of place.

See my edit. Adrian disappeared once he starts going to the ring. I was open to the idea I was mistaken, but turns out I was correct.

Now you're attempting to move the goalposts. I never said they weren't partners or in it together. Certainly they were. Not moreso than Adonis and Bianca and the wives never accompanied them to the ring, which is what you said. (being in the dressing room with them is not accompanying them to the ring)
