I said the documentary raised the question. Did a good job making him appear sympathetic, but it does not justify his actions. But whatever you say bud.

but how much control did he really have over his actions?

Interesting that you felt the need to edit out the first part of the sentence:

The question that the documentary raised for me was that this guy was certainly violent and a self-professed thug,

Great work there though. Other than that blatant omission, and trying to start an argument over nothing.

If your overall point is that there are several factors that may contribute to making someone a killer, I agree. I also agree with the take I quoted that this documentary set out to paint Hernandez in a sympathetic light and fails on many levels for those who closely followed the case. It seemed to have that effect on you. But, it seems I misinterpreted your OP.

 Great job being more outraged by murder than everyone else.

If the main thing you got out of the documentary is that Aaron Hernandez was bad then don't venture too far from cartoons or you are going to miss the point.

There are also a whole bunch of pro athletes who are violent and dangerous. How many avoid prosecution because of their profile, image, and resources?

They didn’t turn into serial killers.

Felt bad for his daughter, and the families who had their loved ones taken.

Not that piece of shit.

Also, consider the fact that neurosurgeon prolly hadn’t seen MANY brains from dead 27 year old former NFL players when she said it’s the worst. Small sample size.

Jeez man.

I don’t remember saying what the main thing I got out of the documentary was.

Your approach is needlessly hostile.

I’m not FF.

I said it did a good job making someone, who is clearly detestable, a more nuanced and sympathetic figure. It's a commentary on the way the film was made. When you have a former closeted NFL player talk about his internal turmoil, and how desperate he was to remain closeted it was clearly an attempt to take you inside the mind of Hernandez.

We never will really know, but it seems like quite a coincidence that as soon as the gay rumors became widespread he killed himself.

Props on saying sample sample size for a CTE study.

I don’t think they tried too hard to create sympathy for him. I think they did just enough to tell a story. He was a bad egg. Yup some things happened to him, and they happen to a lot of people. He had no remorse this wasn’t some accident. Premeditated and continued actions.
