Eh.

Why does CBS produce so much trash TV? The last decade they were relevant was probably the 1970's.

They get huge ratings.

They can roll out a show where the main plot device is whether a nerd in need of a kidney transplant will ultimately end up sleeping with the woman who gave him the kidney and get 5 million viewers easily.

What's your favorite?

NCIS

I think The Goldbergs is the only scripted network tv show I watch.

First couple seasons of Arrested Development were great at the time, less so that so many shows aped the style.
Shameless, the original version, was awesome for a couple seasons, then it became over the top parody. Usually Brit shows are good about doing a few quality seasons and moving on. Spaced was only 2 seasons.

Does Larry Sanders Show count as a sitcom? If so, it's easily the best ever

Not sure how I forgot Andy Griffith that has to be on the list.

Family Ties and Silver Spoons two more good choices.

Curious why The WOnder Years wouldn't be a sitcom?

if you liked Peep Show you gotta check out The IT Crowd. It's on Netflix and it's absolutely hilarious.

I seem to recall that they went through it but I can't remember.

He wasn't as fat when it started but I think there are more women out there who are into chunky guys than vice versa.

the last sitcom I watched week to week new was Prison Break.

I don't get why you don't wait until after to stream/binge it and make sure it's worth it.

i would have a separate list for britcoms or non-american comedies, like from canada. but "larry sanders" and "party down" are good ones.

is the NetFlix version laugh-tracked out the wazoo? dl'd a torrent of it back in the day and found IT Crowd too slapsticky and a laugh-track fest. But then I didn't like Trailer Park Boys when I first saw it on BBC America back in the early 2000's. In 2002, they'd run the The Office original version and TPB in a block with the Ali G Show and maybe the Kumars at No 42? Trailer Park Boys, first I'd ever seen it, not realizing that BBC America had edited out:

1) gunplay
2) cursing
3) drugs
4) drinking, sex etc etc

cut down to maybe 12 minutes of actual show, wtf. A few years on saw the Trailer Park Boys movie and it's all good.

Mrs Brown's Boys is another UK show that many recommend. I dunno , I think I got a bad or working copy the one time I tried to watch it. Production was crap, didn't feel like a finished show.

Good to see CoF is just as wise with sitcom choices as he is with his sports thoughts.

Bateman was talked about a bunch in my youth. No one ever wanted Plato. She did have a tv episode with black face as a slight to her prejudiced boyfriend.

I dabbled with Good Times. I love when Duane was sports book gambling. The others you listed I only watched on rare occasions.

I think there's a laugh track on the show, but I don't remember. Either way, it doesn't interfere with the show.

Justine Bateman showed up on a short-lived sitcom that was sorta Always Sunny before Always Sunny. It was with Shep from ER and Rob Schneider. Bateman and the Shep actor couldn't handle working with Rob Schneider and left after one season. Schneider tried continuing the show into a 2nd season with the guy who'd go on to play Ron in Party Down and some other chick. That first season with Bateman was pretty good for network TV at the time.

Party Down was really good. I was disappointed it only went 2 seasons. And I completely agree about Arrested Development. However, those first 2 seasons are simply brilliant. If they put together a couple more seasons like those first two it would be the best sitcom of all time. Hell, it would be in the running for the best TV show of all time. All the inside jokes and nuanced story lines are fantastic. But the show definitely did lose its luster after those first couple seasons. And no one except me listed Veep. Did people not watch that show? That show is hilarious. Brilliantly acted and written.
