It’s interesting to me that imo his two best performances ever are in the two movies where he plays his most unlikable character

Bertier is about to turn this team around after the Denzel Civil War burial scene.

I never liked the Civil War scene. Seemed a little over the top even watching it as a teenager.

Denzel is great in that one too obviously but that’s about as good as Will Patton gets. I think he makes that movie as much as Denzel

Agree with all that.

Hayden Panettiere might be the best part of that movie. And then she killed it in Heroes.

I'm also a big Will Patton fan. He makes every movie better.

I was watching Gone in 60 Seconds a few weeks ago. Patton is awesome in it. Hadn’t seen it in probably 15 years and its better than I remember due in large part to him

Fat John Goodman caterwalling to the Rolling Stones almost steals the movie from Denzel.

Almost.

Gandolfini is awesome in it too. And it gave us a phenomenal Denzel reaction gif.

Love Fallen but this was meant to be a thread for legit top 5 Denzel movies

Going back to this, you sure??

That screaming match with Hackman tops anything in RTT right?

Bertier is about to get in a car accident.

But, to your question, yeah, it's great, the movie is better but as a Denzel movie RTT is better.

CT is a better movie. I feel I've made myself clear on this point.

Like you said before Hackman equals Denzel as a character the way that Hanks matches him in Philadelphia.

Right. I just dont think a costar giving an equally great performance diminishes our guy’s performance. Or else we will need to have another Will Patton discussion.

I think a good case can be made his performance in CT > RTT

But, going back to the OP, if the criteria is “Denzel unequivocally owns this movie”, again I would say Training Day and Fences are the top 2. Viola Davis is very good in Fences tho.

If you're looking for an argument, I'm not going to give it to you. I'm cool either way.

I just discovered Bertier was Opie in Sons of Anarchy. I had no idea.

Not looking for an argument. You can probably guessed the movie I rewatched tonight though

Your last line blew my mind too when I first heard it. Even after watching the movie and show after knowing it, it was still hard to see.

I guess "discovered" is a trigger word.

It existed before I became aware of it this evening.

I’m watching Crimson Tide now.

I legit have tomorrow off. Everything in North America is closed.

I’m sleeping until 8am.

Then I’ll probably do some work.

The Equalizer is really underrated. The 2nd wasn’t as good.

It was in the Taken era I think. It has that feel.

The Book of Eli mentions surprise me. Maybe I’ll have to revisit that. Only saw it once but my impression is it was a rare miss for him.

Watched Training Day. Very good. Any movie with time for Tuco is ok in my book!

American Gangster has to be in anyone's top 5 list.

I kind of of agree that Crimson Tide had was a share with Gene Hackman where they both were amazing. Titans....Denzel made that movie awesome solo.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Glory. He's the best actor, even in a supporting role and in scenes with some people I consider very talented. I don't like how they inacuratly portray the SICP guy as dillettante, more interested in the academic debate about slavery than the physical need to stop it.

I'm incredibly excited for Macbeth. It's always been my favorite Shakespeare and Denzel is one of my favorite actors.

I really like Denzel's son as well.
