Just finished season 2 'on-demand' and for the most part I like the show. I agree that having the Maryann story as one of the main themes of the season seemed odd, considering that in the end it didn't really amount to much other than a lot of creepy nudity and tara's life being even more bitter and depressing.

Back to the comments about the books, according to my wife, there are alot of things not in the books that are in the show and many others where bits and pieces of the books were used, but the characters in the different situations were switched around. She said season 2 was way more different than the books than season 1 was. For example, Maryann is a pretty small piece of 1 book.

I know not a lot of people are into this show but thought it was worth bumping as
Season 3 kicks off on June 13th. I am hoping to catch the last couple episodes from
the last season to kind of refresh my memory of what is going on. With The Pacific
gone and Treme bound to wrap up in the next few weeks, I need something on
Sunday evenings to satiate my HBO fix.

Season 3 started up last Sunday evening. It was just an ok opener. Seems
like there is going to be a lot going on this season and hopefully this show
hasn't completely jumped the shark. The introduction of a number of new
characters has me slightly concerned as well as werewolves joining in the
fray. Definitely one of the strangest shows on TV, but I mean that mostly
in a good way.

I think the chum is the water my friend. Last season wasn't necesarily bad. It was still funny but just seemed to drag on and on with the Maryann stuff. I'm very wary of this whole werewolf thing. Seems to be going a little Twilight-esque now. Maybe the books are like that I'm not sure.

From what I have heard the books are entirely a different animal. They
have really tried to sex it up for HBO. Still haven't seen the episode from
last week but I still have hopes that it will be decent enough to stick
with during the summer. Nothing much else on TV.

The craziness continues with this series. Just watched Sunday's
episode last night. Getting a bit more of the backstory of the
characters this season. So far this season has been pretty
decent, there are a lot of stories going on at the same time.
New vampire and werewolf characters so far are only ok, quite a
bit of gore early on as well.

Absolutely. That scene at the end of the last episode was one of the strangest
things I have ever seen. Dude turned the girl's neck he was having sex with 180
degrees. Special effects looked pretty fake, but the fact that she seemed to
enjoy it made the whole thing even more strange.

Last ep had a good flashback about Eric. Is he gonna plot to kill the king(who annoys the fuck outta me btw)?

Certainly seems like Eric is plotting something big. He'll do anything to get that crown back.
I have no idea where this show is headed. It could go anywhere at this point.

I've enjoyed the season so far, but it has definately been all over the place. There are 3 or 4 different story lines that really don't have anything to do with each other.

ive watched the series from show 1... its good enough to keep me watching but its in a weird "oh look how desperate they are to make something grand" sort of way. the show never really had a true theme to it, besides that bitches love for that vamp. and shes already starting to age. too bad shes not like 20, but i guess then her acting would be even worse

So what the hell is Sookie? A fairy or some kind of wood nymph?

Bill is now able to withstand some sunlight

I was really hoping that Alcide would shoot his ex gf. Glad he killed her new wolf though

A vampire TV show? My God, over on BBC, they got a show where a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost live together! And get this, the vamp & werewolf work at the hospital!

Would I kid you?

No. Called "Being Human." Saturdays @ 10

(Yes, Beebo sees a trend, here. How about a show about a Troll, who lives in the basement and surfs the web all day? Yep, a Troll who trolls.)

[Edit: Oh and the guy who plays the werewolf has the gayest squeel to him -- and he squeels a lot]

In the books, her mother (or grandmother, I forget what my wife told me  ) had sex with a fairy, so both her and her brother have some kind of fairy in them. *Spoiler* Also in the books, the queen's human is Sookie's cousin and she has a child with powers similar to Sookie. I should mention, this has all been told to me without me paying much attention :D , so some things could be off.

The show is pretty good.

Twisted and gory. Then Sookie rides the vampire last night. Yummy.

I realize this is 'Movies & TV', not 'Books', but it's a little interesting (or not) how things get changed.

Here's a few things my wife has told me that are different. For reference, she thinks the TV story is roughly book 3 or 4 right now??

1. The Bill & Sookie 'true romance' isn't in the books. They break up book 1 because he cheats and she ends up with Bill, Eric, Alcide(sp?) and maybe others? I do think she ends up with him by the end in the books.

2. The cook (I'm blanking on his name) dies at the end of book 1. He's the character dead in the car.

3. Maryann was the main thread of last season but a small part in the books.

4. Sookie's brother has the "power" of 'attracting people' in the books. They are just drawn to him somehow??? I guess that's why he sleeps around in the show. :D

5. The main guy of the "meth head" clan is a fairly powerful character in the books, not some in-bred crack addict.

I guess that enough random, dumbass posting for today....

theyre hinting now that meth head crack addict is gonna fuck up sookies brother and the whole police department.

this show is actually getting pretty badass this season. the stupidity is fading a bit and things are getting a little more believable. last weeks episode was really good... the bitches are physically fighting and the dudes are throwin off the gloves ready to start war. not a whole lot of weird magical shit in this season, its just raw battles and subtle twists.

I think those meth heads are werepanthers. Wasn't one of them eating like a cat when Jason went in the trailer?

i thought it was a deer

the marlott brothers did smell them before those methdudes walked into the bar, so theyre definitely some sort of freak. sookies brother will get captured and bill will save them.

Yeah, I think it was a deer he was eating, but he seemed to be bent over eating it like a big cat would.

I caught up on the last few episodes this weekend. I really don't understand what they are doing with the Tara character. Is the idea that the writers want to put her in every fucked up situation imaginable to show she is a survivor? They don't seem to have a defining role for her character. I've always thought Northman was the best character on the show and am looking forward to seeing how it all plays with him and the king of MS.

Considering that I haven't read them, I don't know why I keep posting about the books, but in the books the methheads are were-panthers.

Just watched last week's episode last night. CF, you were right about the fairy
and panther reveals. No idea what the deal is with the panthers yet but we
found out Jason's little girlfriend was one so the rest of her screwed up family
must be the same. As for Tara, we may find out later that she is some kind of
witch or something. Looks like her distant relatives may have been some, as
we find out when Lafayette was tripping on V. Sookie was dumb to go back to
Eric, I am guessing he is locking her up for her own protection at this point but
maybe he has something more devious up his sleeve. Can't believe there are
only 2 episodes left. I have a feeling there is going to be a lot of killing the
next two Sundays. Timing couldn't be better with the NFL starting soon.

Really? I guess I could see that for some.

If I had to choose between the two I would favor Sookie I guess.

edit: Maybe you were talking about wanting more of the Jessica storyline?

jessica is hotter then sookie, but neither is a 10. sookie is one of those transformer girls. sometimes she looks pretty hot, other times she looks like an old grandma.

jessica always looks good. totally ass fuckable.
