Didi was alright. I think she'll do better.

Janelle was awful but they said she was good because they want to keep the hot blonde girl in the competition.

Congratulations on breaking the 10,000 post mark Dr. Ken. You've been the source of
a lot of laughter out here in the couple of years I have posted. Keep up the good work.

Thanks. I guess that was a monumental post on American Idol.

Whoever sang that Chris Issac tune is gonna be around til the end I think.

That hippy chick isn't bad, but musicians like her are a dime a dozen. TBone, its very very hard to play harp, guitar, and sing in the same song. Not making excuses for her, just saying that its quite difficult.

Funny,I told my family when the hippie was on that she looks like something you walk by in the subway. 2 minutes later,Simon said the same thing.

Yeah, she's not bad she's just not original. I think you need to stand out more to win this thing.

I was only half paying attention last night, but I was left very unimpressed.

I am sure you are right. I hope she takes a few chances, her voice is decent. Frank, I don't
have any doubt it would be difficult to play two instruments and sing. I just thought that she
probably didn't need it in the performance if it was going to be kinda shaky. I wish I had the
patience and ability to learn the harmonica. Do you play the harp at all Frank? Is it something
you can pick up on your own? I've thought about buying one for the past couple of years and
just haven't picked one up.

Thank god for DVR, watched 2 hours of badness in about 30 min. I don't understand her bringing out the harp again. I thought it was a nice move to stand out at 'Hollywood week', but now that it's the final 24, just show you can sing.

I can play like 4 songs on the harp. Its just enough to give a handful of tunes a nice element. You can pick it up probably fairly easily, but its something that will take a while to get good at.

My Wife is addicted to AI, & I must admit that I watch it too. But last night was the worst AI show that I have ever seen. Awful song choices & awful performances. I'm also a big Ellen D fan, but so far she adds nothing to AI, besides telling every contestant "your great".

Where have I heard that before? Paula Abdul seemed to say the same thing about every "American Idol" wannabe before she left this season...

As for Ellen DeGeneres' addition, I didn't understand it at the time and I still don't get it now. Shania Twain would've been ideal...

The guys tonight all sucked just as bad as the Girls did last night. I think they are trying to have the contestants sing more contemporary songs, but the songs suck.
This is the weakest group of 24 singers ever on this show.

I thought the guys were a little better than the girls, but not much. And can someone explain to me why in the hell is Ellen on this show? She brings nothing to the table. She says basically the same thing after each performance.

I only watched a little bit but wasn't that impressed. Hopefully when they
trim the really bad ones everyone else will step up their games.

RFDC.... I know what you mean. Couldn't believe I actually said it but I told
the wife that Paula wasn't all that bad compared to this. Once Simon leaves
I think this show will be on life support. You can bank on Ellen saying this...

"I really like you..."

No real surprises last night as they started trimming the fat.

Yea but they kicked off the two prettiest girls. They usually stick around at least to week 2 or 3. That Munoz kid wasn't bad, I think people didn't really vote for him because they showed hardly anything of him during Hollywood week and I think that helps keep some of the lesser talented people around. The more people are shown during Hollywood week the more people seem to care about them.

I wasn't surprised by either of the two girls. Both of the guys voted off were a surprise to me. The Munoz kid definitely could sing a bit, thought he should have stuck around. The guy who sang one republic and the one who wore the jacket with coat tails were changing the channel bad I thought

I thought the kid who sang Lips from an Angel was really good last night. Everyone else you can have them at this point, no one really stands out.

Yeah I thought he was decent and I thought the big black dude was pretty good. Other than that I thought the show was brutal again.

+1 Forgot about him since he lead off. He was really bad last week, good to see him turn it around.

American Idol could be in for trouble this season. I cant remember an AI season where the judges dislike every performance, with a few exceptions. Most of the Guys are bad & wouldn't have made it this far in previous years, same goes for the Girls. There isn't anyone who stands out the way some did in previous seasons. Even my Wife is losing interest & she is a die hard fan.

The hippie Bowersox had another good performance last night. A couple other
decent ones. I'll probably pay a bit more attention when they get to the top 12.
Most performances have been forgettable. I liked the fact that Randy had a bit
of a bug up his ass last night for some of the show.

The hippy and that shorthaired wierd girl who sang 'Think' at the end are probably the best. I think that younger balck girl and the one who played the piano are gonna be out pretty early.

So I am watching it last night with my fiancee (I should preface this by saying I am not a regular viewer of AI, but I will suffer through it when need be,) and they show some clip of last week where Simon said she was indulgent (I don't remember who this was about.) I said yeah, she really was, then fiancee hits the pause button and asks what that means. I said it happens when the judges tell you to make a song your own, but you overdo it and take the song out of where it wants to be because you feel like laying some sort of vocal riff down that is really unnecessary or helpful to the song. I explained that when the judges say you weren't true to the song, that is one case of where Simon will say you are being indulgent. Another instance is when you choose a song that isn't your style of song at all, but you just happen to like the song or feel you have the chops for it when clearly you don't. So after that explanation she says that it doesn't make any sense. I think it makes perfect sense -- I get when they say that someone didn't make the song their own (like that Kelly Clarkson song last night) and I get when they say that someone didn't stay true to the song. And I get why people are frustrated that the judges say apparently different things, but they really aren't exact opposites. When they tell the CT girl to do a younger song and she picks Macy Gray, well, technically she is younger and more modern, but Macy Gray has an old woman style of singing (though it is very good.) Upon re-reading, perhaps I should have posted this in the things nobody cares about thread.

This is coming from a 30-something suburban white guy, so I'm not trying to start a fight, but I think the breakdown of who's been voted off so far is interesting. Of the 8 gone, 3 are hispanic, 2 black and 1 asian. Not saying they were good, but there are plenty of crappy singing white guys/gals left too. I thought the guy from Joliet that was eliminated tonight could have been good, but he picked 2 bad songs the 2 weeks.

I'll say the final 6 or so will be -

that DeWyle guy
Adam Lambert
Didi Benami
Siobhan
Katie something
the guy Kara loves

Wildcard: the big personal trainer guy

All about picking the right songs at this stage. If you pick a good one
and fall on your face the next week, that seems to be good enough to
keep you around due to your prior performance. That happens much
less in the top 10 or top 12. What I think is a little unfair is that there
has to be 6 guys and 6 girls in the final 12. Not sure if it wouldn't shake
out that way this year anyway, but you are potentially cutting better
performers at this stage to make your quota. Such is life I guess.

I think Anthony Garcia? might have a shot too.

Mostly okay with who got voted off last night. The Lee kid from Northwestern will be kicking himself for a long time for 2 terrible song choices in two weeks.
