Pretty OK? Is that like "wonderfully average"?

I'm sure each of it's holdout "niche" viewers love it (I did several years ago), but the overwhelming majority of TV viewers don't have an inkling where or when it's on (I had to look it up).

"Pretty OK"

Guess Rex got a call from his Momma about the profanity. Also the GM trying to field that punt was HILARIOUS!! Some people are just meant to stay in the office.

http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/news/story?id=5459024
CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Rex Ryan received a call late Wednesday night from his mother. She wasn't happy with his use of profanity in the first episode of HBO's "Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the NY Jets."

In a behind-the-scenes look at the Jets, Ryan dropped more F-bombs than a script from "The Sopranos." On Thursday, the Jets' coach was somewhat sheepish when asked about his language.

"I apologize if I offended more people than I usually offend," he said in typical self-deprecating style.

If anybody think Ryan was simply hamming it up for the cameras, you don't know him very well. It was Rex being Rex, a quality that endears him to his players.

"You should've seen what they edited out," said safety Jim Leonhard, alluding to the team meeting that appears early in the episode.

Most of the players on the team watched from their dorms. Outside linebacker Jason Taylor said he was too camped out to watch more camp.

"We're living it," said Taylor, who has enjoyed his share of national-TV exposure over the years -- a former contestant on the "Dancing With the Stars" show. "We go through training camp all day. The last thing you want to do is watch training camp on TV."

The debut focused on several storylines, including the Darrelle Revis holdout, but Ryan stole the show -- hardly a surprise. But his act may not have been appropriate for younger audiences.

"The problem is, that's what happens," Ryan said. "Sometimes you get rolling and words come out and you don't even realize you're saying it. My mom is the only one really disappointed that I care about. I'm going to be myself."

"Skip the F-bombs and everything else," defensive lineman Sione Pouha said. "You can really feel that this guy is passionate about what he does and is passionate about his players."

The curses aside, some viewers may have been more offended by some explicit scenes in the HBO vampire series "True Blood," which aired just before "Hard Knocks."

"Can't blame that one on me," Ryan said, laughing.

"I watched it in my dorm room," Pouha said. "Had a couple of brownies -- that's probably a $5 fine -- but watched it in the room and the encore as well. It was quite entertaining."

One of the more entertaining scenes included Ryan going up against general manager Mike Tannenbaum in a punt-pass-kick competition. Tannenbaum went head-over-heels while unsuccessfully trying to field a punt.

"There's some people who probably watched it over and over," a smiling Ryan said -- likely referring to Revis' agents.

"I don't know if people get used to seeing coaches and the GM having fun," linebacker Bart Scott said. "You're not used to seeing fun. So, we like to have fun. I think [people] get a greater appreciation of how we go about our business."

Mad Men draws about 2 million viewers per episode. By most standards, that's pretty bad.

I never cared for Sopranos at all. I thought the show was very overated.

I wonder if Antonio Cromartie is going to start looking like Shawn Kemp? He's got the kids thing down.

Please do not forget about The Bronx is Burning. That was a master class. Oh, 1977, my salad days, when I was green in judgment, cold in blood, what a wonderful time to be alive!

Unless, of course, you were a victim of the Son of Sam.

No shit. That clip starts out with him saying that after practice its time for him to switch it off and turn on the father mode, be a dad, the FAMILY man, the whatever.....so I thought oh that is pretty cool. Then he starts listing his kids & the ages...and I thought this is pretty cool....then he got to about the third of 4th three year old and went on to list a few 2 year olds, and a 1 year old and a new born with his girlfriend.

Fucking idiot.

I was cringing as he mentioned the myriad of 3-year olds he's produced. It was the equivalent of a verbal clown car. What a douche. How the Jets signed off on showing that segment is beyond me. I know it was made public that he asked for more upfront money from the Jets for his paternity issues, but seriously, that segment made him look like Douche of the Year.

Principle?

Have you ever NOT been charged extra for ranch?

His comparision to Mcdonalds charging for ketchup packets wasn't even the same ballpark

Anyone been keeping up with this series? This past week's episode was
not too bad. They had to make some more cuts, feel bad for some of the
guys who don't have a place on the roster. We also get to see what a
big prima donna Jason Taylor is, as he can't show up anywhere on time.
This team goofs off more than any other team I remember seeing on this
show. Maybe that is just how they are but I wouldn't be surprised to
see this team underachieve early in the season. Funniest part was
Sanchez changing the coordinator's screen saver and drawing mustaches
and beards on his kids photos in his office.

Jason Taylor needs to ride the team bus like every other player. Mark Sanchez is a little dipshit who needs a good crack upside the head. For all the hype this team gets, I predict they suck this year. The defense will be good again, but not great even with Revis. I don't buy into Sanchez as a top tier QB.

I think this season has been really good. That Tannenbaum guy is pretty much a jagoff. You can't even sit down and look that QB in the eye before you have to blurt out "yeah, we're gonna cut you"?

I mean you both know what's coming but at least let the guy sit down.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing. That was a dick move, I thought the QB was going to
cry. What is that GM's qualifications for the job? No way he could have been a former
player, he seems like kind of a putz to me. Maybe I'll do some quick research and post it.

Ok, here's the scoop.....

Mike D. Tannenbaum is the General Manager of the New York Jets. At the age of 37, Mike is one of the youngest general managers in the NFL.

Education
Tannenbaum graduated in 1987 from Needham High School in Needham, Massachusetts. He received a degree in accounting and a minor in sports management from the University of Massachusetts. He then graduated cum laude from Tulane University Law School where he earned his certificate in sports law.

Career
Tannenbaum was hired by the Jets on Feb. 2, 1997 and served in numerous administrative positions with the team, including senior vice president of football operations and assistant general manager.

In 2006, Tannenbaum succeeded Terry Bradway as the Jets' new general manager.[1] In his first NFL Draft as general manager, he drafted University of Virginia offensive tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson with the 4th overall pick. Other notable selections included Ohio State center Nick Mangold with the 29th overall pick, University of Oregon quarterback Kellen Clemens with the 49th overall pick, and Florida State University running back Leon Washington with the 117th overall pick.

In his second draft, Tannenbaum decided to trade up from the 25th slot to draft Darrelle Revis, a cornerback from the University of Pittsburgh. Tannenbaum continued dealing in the 2nd round, in which he traded up to get inside linebacker David Harris from the University of Michigan. Tannenbaum also drafted Jacob Bender, a tackle from Nicholls State and Chansi Stuckey, a wide receiver from Clemson.

Moreso than most NFL teams, the NY Jets are 'the boneyard' of the NFL.

I can think of numerous NFL players that went there to 'make a difference' and they see their careers fizzle out to an inglorious end.

Ronnie Lott
Boomer Esiason

Jason Taylor
Ladanian Tomlinson

I expect their defense to play well, but I anticipate an implosion of their offense as Mark Sanchez struggles mightily. The one person that can bail their asses out is Mark Brunell. That's currently lost on 'golden boy' Mark Sanchez, but not on Tannenbaum and Schottenheimer.

Watched the last episode of the series. I have to say I really enjoy this every year
before the NFL kicks off. The last episode is always pretty good, seeing the team
make the last cuts and everything. I found the Jets to be a pretty unlikeable team
overall. A team has to have some kind of swagger but these guys take it to the level
of cocky and beyond. I look forward to seeing how things play out for them early
this season.
