I really enjoyed Slumdog. I forgot about that and Big Fish. Those would be near the top on my list as well.

So it's your fault that Kevin James keeps getting work.

The Town? I noticed it last night as I went through my Directv channels...you say it's worth a watch?

I just saw it two nights ago. It was decent IMO. Better than most Affleck movies.

All you motherfuckers are gonna pay. You are the ones who are the ball-lickers. We're gonna fuck your mothers while you watch and cry like little bitches. Once we get to Hollywood and find those Miramax fucks who are making that movie, we're gonna make 'em eat our shit, then shit out our shit, then eat their shit which is made up of our shit that we made 'em eat. Then you're all you motherfucks are next.

i really have to explain this? there is a huge difference between "the lord of the rings" trilogy and most other trilogies. it's all a part of the same story arc that can't be resolved in one movie. "fellowship" does not have a conclusion, neither does "the two towers". "return of the king" is the third act of the same story. they act as one movie; that's why the books are usually collected into "The Lord of the Rings" as a whole.

"the godfather" concludes at the end, and is continued into another arc in the sequel; same thing with "back to the future", "alien", "rocky", etc.

If I recall, doesn't Back to the Future 2 connect directly with Back to the Future 3 (they also filmed them back to back).

unless the climax of 2 requires them to go to the old west...the story of 2 is concluded at the end, then there's an "epilogue" that sets up the third film. that's different. the story of "fellowship" is not concluded at the end of it. it sets things up for the rest of the story...the story of LOTR is destroying the ring at mordor. it's just the end of "act one".

Wedding Crashers
Serenity
Star Trek
The Italian Job
The Fast and the Furious

But you said Star Wars can all be lumped together too. The first movie can easily stand alone, the death star is destoyed and they are celebrating on Yavin. Sounds like you are picking and choosing what works.

I think we are going to have to agree to disagree. At the end of BTTF 2 they get back the almanac but the DeLorean is struck by lightning and Doc is sent to 1885. The Western Union guy comes up and gives Marty the letter explaining where the DeLorean is and that Doc is in 1885. Then the movie ends with a very specific TO BE CONCLUDED... That tells me it was the end of Act Two.

I could go with this list, except for 1,8,9, and 10.

Although the bar scene in Inglorious Basterds was very good. The Town was alright.

I never understood the critical love of The Royal Tennenbaums. Same with that Sofia Coppola movie with Bill Murray.

yes, and the first one says "to be continued..." but it's a completely different story arc than the first movie. in the first movie, the macguffin is the time machine, used to get marty from the past back to the present and has to re-unite his parents. he completes that. the second movie deals with his kids, and the macguffin is the sports book. the third movie deals with getting doc back to his present. each of them have their own storyline, their own 3 acts, and their own conclusions. it's a "trilogy" in the sense that it's a collection of movies that deal with time travel. "the lord of the rings" has one specific storyline that is concluded by the third film, but they're all a part of the same arc.

they can, but that would technically be more like cheating. they do revolve around the same narrative arc but i don't think "star wars" was conceived as a trilogy at first, until money was made. however, "empire" doesn't have a conclusion the way that "jedi" and "a new hope does", so that does link them together.

i've seen others use the trilogy (star wars) rather than separate movies in their own respective lists...so i'm allowing it on that i guess.
