Stiller was okay in the Night at movies and I like zoolander, but there is something not lquite right about him.

I must admit, I don't know what to make of ZG. I don't know where he came from or why. However, his evolution from Doogie Howser to the Unabomber over the course of like 90 months is impressive.

I think There's Something About Mary and Tropic Thunder are great, then there is a big dropoff. Haven't seen Tenenbaums yet.

Aside from the film itself, it's one of my favorite soundtracks. "These Days," "Needle in the Hay," "Stephanie Says," ""Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard," "Judy Is a Punk," "Christmas Time Is Here," and Mothersbaugh's orchestral cover of "Hey Jude."

I liked The Grand Budapest Hotel as much as Royal Tenn's.
In fact, I think I liked it more.
And even though PSH shines WAY more in the scene, this is one of my favorite Stiller onscreen moments.

can't go wrong with either "tenenbaum" or "rushmore"'s soundtracks.

Did you listen to I Saved Latin! yet? It's spotty, but Juliana Hatfield's cover of "Needle in the Hay" is pretty outstanding.

i'd never heard of it til you mentioned it; but i just listened to the hatfield cover. it's ok. i mean, i'm not really all that into tribute albums and there's something very distinctly pleasant, unnerving, and heartbreaking the way smith performs that song...i can't really see anyone being able to capture that.

it's like anyone covering a nick drake song...just doesn't do it for me.

I think the only person that would've been able to do Needle In The Hay any justice is Cobain.
I don't think that's happening any time soon.

COULD NOT AGREE MORE!

The guy ruins movies!

He basically put the Wilson brothers into the industry with BOTTLEROCKET and now these guys always need to call him 'yeah, we gotta call Ben for a role"..

the guy is bland vanilla ice cream....Could take 20 of his roles and put an unkown in the role and it would be better...Fockers, Walter Mitty, Anchorman, Dodge Ball, on and on

biggie what are you talking about, wes anderson wrote and directed "bottle rocket" and it was executive produced by james l. brooks.

ben stiller's greatness was beween the mid 90's and the mid 2000's with stuff like "the ben stiller show", his contributions to the MTV video awards, "mystery men", "zoolander", and "dodgeball".

he's always been better as a character than himself, i think. and he is a great director and writer.

"royal tenenbaums" is easily anderson's best film. he hasn't made anything close to as good since that one. and he was really on a roll.roy

Bottlerocket was a disaster financially speaking. Stiller got some people together and re-released it. Didnt Owen wilson co-write it? and then Stiller gave Wilson a role in Cable Guy. His first PAYING GIG...

And lets finish this thread here with one word..

ZOOLANDER!

I know a guy who fucked Juliana Hatfield. Is that cool? He attended a school called Skidmore (not Swarthmore).

from what i recall, "bottle rocket" was a small movie until it was somewhat "discovered" on MTV winning a movie award, and then "Rushmore" propelled wes anderson into indie fame. it took owen wilson years to build a name for himself...i wouldn't doubt that ben stiller had a hand in that because he's got a lot of power in Hollywood but i don't think he saved "bottle rocket" or made it a cult classic himself.

I went to a college with a guy well known for never properly wiping his ass named Skidmore.

I only saw it once, and it was a long time ago, but I didn't enjoy The Royal Tannenbaoums. I enjoyed The Grand Budapest Hotel immensely. I also thought Fantastic Mr. Fox was a riot.
