This last black and white episode was just alright with me. It was a really long episode that didn't really move the story along that far. Yes, we find out what happens to a handful of main characters but I just think they could have wrapped that all up in half the time. I am sure there is some kind of deeper meaning wrapped up in the tornado and all that but there is still a lot of loose ends to tie up and only 2 episodes to do it in.

as i had suspected, it was a padding episode. the scenes between MM & the dog, and MM & rabbi, were all great. but hawley gives himself wet dreams over fantasizing about flannel-wearing hipsters surrounding a fire pit drinking craft beer and discussing what the sign "the future is now" means compared to the tornado, and satchel being dorothy. tell a story and shut up, noah.

The only two characters worth watching(Irishman and Mormon) in this disjointed student film are both gone. Left with Chris Rock and Jason Schwartzman. Yikes.

at least we hear about a big shootout at the slaughterhouse on the car radio. that got me looking forward to the upcoming episodes

I think this series has been some of the best work we have seen from Schwartzman in some time. He comes off as very unlikeable naturally, so that helps him here.

What does anyone think about 'Ole oxygen-sucking Papa Milligan (or his apparition)?

Nobody noticed that?

I noticed it looked a lot like him but didn't really understand the scene at all. Obviously the young man "becomes" a Milligan so maybe something supposed to link that way.

Was he even really there?

IMDB confirms that it is the same actor: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm3638830/?ref_=tt_cl_i9, but he is referred to as "Bandaged Man" in the episode.

I liked the payoff of Rabbi always telling the kid “if I don’t come back I’m either dead or in jail” and when he left for his fateful gift trip, he left without telling the kid anything and said to the hotel clerk, “tell the kid I’ll be right back.”

Famous last words...

It's so obvious how to win the war, both the girl and Cannon are laughing.

just when josto & gaetano were becoming the best relationship in the show...what a way to go. i'm surprised orietta had the gall to try and accuse ethelrida of anything when she should've known she was gonna get pinched soon enough.

the "ghost ex machina" was a decent effect.

I think they should have let Gaetano's routine post-kill dance play out a bit before tripping, though.

They kind of made it look like just a clumsy fall.

Gonna miss that crazy bastard!

Sets up for an interesting finale. Still one of my favorite shows on TV. This season is firmly better than the third but they still haven't hit it out of the park which is frustrating. I'm not sure they could have hit a home run with some of the casting and storyline but it's been a win for me personally getting to watch.

It feels like 10 lbs of shit in a 5lb bag. Either make more episodes or cut the fat.

fairly predictable finale but i wasn't satisfied with cannon's storyline. i really couldn't stand the escapee subplot, the two characters were just either bland or annoying. to have them have any kind of comeuppance irritated me.

the mid-credits scene was kind of unnecessary too but it was nice seeing bokeem again. makes me want to watch the second season.

overall i'd still put this above S3, but behind S1 and 2.

SPOILERS! ALWAYS SPOILERS AHEAD!!! *****

It redeemed itself toward the end, however, I think the Orietta turn and the New York Takeover by goombah-guy was some pretty lazy storytelling.

Would have also liked to see the moment the name "Mike Milligan" was settled on.

Oranges? Really he had to have a bag of oranges? I thought that was shockingly lazy.

The mid credit scene was unnecessary, I'm sure 99% of the people knew who it was...after all, they didn't do that with Hanzee in season two.

Other than that, I found it to be fine. Better than most tv, not as good as season 1 or 2. I think it is time for Hawley to bow out and find a different voice.

It's refreshing that a modern day writer decides to wrap up a series nice and tidy. So many don't.

Finale was a bit unsatisfying but overall it worked. The Mike Milligan reveal at the end was super anti-climactic unless you were sleep walking through the entire series. Most of us had that worked out after the first episode. As W_Z said, it is better than most things on TV but after the first few seasons set the bar at a high level I just expect a bit more. The one thing I would like to see in the next season and maybe it was hinted at with the Mike Milligan scene is just how Satchel "becomes" Mike Milligan to become who we see in season 2. In my mind that could have some potential.

at least do more than just show him in the car idly playing with his gun. have him find that lady who killed his dad and get some revenge or have something happen.

of course, the media outlets that wrote about the finale all had headlines "About That HUGE Reveal Mid-Credits Sequence We HAVE TO TALK ABOUT!" just sucked hawley's cock enough to justify him not ever having to pay that "reveal" off...yeah, we all knew who the kid was going to become. once you put the milligan thing together in the beginning, like T-Bone did, it was ringing like church bells throughout the entire season.

i'm a bit intrigued by hawley adapting "cat's cradle" but i have a feeling he'll paste it with the same style as "fargo" and it's really tiring me out. it's exhausting to watch sometimes.

Yes. This is what should be done. I wish I was a better non-scientific writer so I could fan fiction that.

The other thing they could do (which honestly, I was really hoping to have happened in season 4 but obviously they didn't do) is the idea that Ethelrida's father becomes the undertaker from season two. That was one of my favorite scenes from season two and a character just known as the undertaker has to have a fantastic backstory...starting as an undertaker would have been a good start. Hell even if they didn't have him as the undertaker, the undertaker has to have a good story no matter who he is.

Ah! I missed that Godfather homage.
