Whose Management is more incompetent...NBC, or the Bears? I have a feeling this entire debacle might just backfire on Leno. Even my Mother is mad at Jay, & she was a charter member of the Jay Leno ALS. On another note, I didn't realize that Conan O/Brien went to Harvard. His Mom was an Attorney & his Father was a Doctor & a Professor at Harvard.

NBC is. At least there's hope for the Bears' Jay.

Conan and NBC agreed on terms for his leaving earlier today. His last show will
be this Friday with Tom Hanks and Will Ferrell as his final guests. Total dollar
amounts appeared to be $45 mil for the buyout with $12 mil going to Conan's staff of
200 people. Conan was expected to chip in more from his amount to help his
staff, most of whom picked up and moved from the east coast to stay with him.
Part of the deal mentioned that he wouldn't be able to have another show until
later on this fall. I hope the ratings get even worse when Conan leaves. Leno
starts March 1st.

According to what I've read, Conan O'Brien and his staff will get $32.5 million from NBC in a buyout, and that he'll likely return to the air in September, likely on FOX.

Although we still get a nightly "Oprah Winfrey Show" rerun locally sandwiched in between here in Chicago, ABC bosses seem to have a winning late night hand with the Ted Koppel-less "Nightline" & "Jimmy Kimmel Live" back-to-back in most markets. They're not interested in adding Conan. They're not interested in Conan after swinging & missing on David Letterman a few years ago.

If Conan does go to FOX, I've got three names to keep in mind. Joan Rivers, Chevy Chase & Earvin "Magic" Johnson... 'Nuff said.

Conan was smart to walk. He's making a lot of money and he's got 8 months off.

8 months off isn't the best thing for him right now. This is a big story, and Conan's ratings the last two weeks have been through the roof. If he were able to premeire on another network within like a month, he would probably carry a big chunk of those ratings over. Now he has to wait 8 months, and A.D.D. America will have forgotten about this story by then.

This was probably a huge part of the negotiations for NBC. They want to keep Conan off the air as long as they can.

yup.. likely they wanted to keep him off air for at least a year... but conan's contract was basically breeched so NBC had a lot of ass kissin to do. its really unbelieveable, because in 10 years when leno dies nbc will have nothing for latenight. fox and cbs will be the only real players with conan and letterman, and nbc will likely continue even then to be the butt of a lot of house brand jokes.

I found a video of Neil Young's perfomance on Conan's last show. It was a great tribute to Conan and a great choice as a final musical guest.

(Not sure how long this will be up)

Douchebag, I agree. That was a nice song choice and performed very well.
Neil Young still has essentially the same voice he's always had through the years.

Conan's exit was very classy. That really was Will Ferrel's pregnant wife by the way. I can't beleive his ratings were that bad. Conan is great, but it seemed he wasn't drawing "A" list talent on most nights. Of course, when all the "hoopla" started, the vultures all circled his guest list to be part of the "cool crowd" and show their 'CoCo Love".

Jimmy, Jay Leno was also having trouble attracting "A List" talent for his prime time show before NBC cancelled the 9p weeknight show about a week to 10 days ago. Jay's prime time show will leave the air February 11th, one night before the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

NBC Sports' Chairman Dick Ebersol claimed in an interview he did with the New York Times that he supposedly met with Conan O'Brien three weeks before he took over "The Tonight Show" 7 months ago. He felt that Conan "was stubborn and not willing to broaden the appeal of his show". He wouldn't necessarily say what was discussed.

If NBC really wants to be crazy, give the TONIGHT SHOW to Chris Elliot! His bizarre type of sarcasm cracks me up. I would love to see him do a talk show!

His "wise-ass" persona would be great as he interviews all these "stick-up-my-ass" movie stars. Just my opinion.

I think I was still soiling diapers when Chris Elliot was last relevant.

Jay Leno is relevant? Conan is 46,is he relevant? Who is RELEVANT? Hey let's get that English guy from "Forgetting Sarah Marshall"! Quick,he is on minute 12 of his 15 minutes.
He just got engaged to Katy Perry, that bastard! Russel Brand,he's wacky!

If you're going that route I'd prefer Norm McDonald.

Dude, settle it down a little bit. I was exaggerating a little in my lost post, but what I said was a relatively true.

Chris Elliot's career has been dead for 10-15 years now. I would still consider Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien relevant. Age has nothing to do with it. Relevance would be gauged by commercial appeal of said person. Elliot has zero. Conan and Leno have both been recent hosts of Network talk shows. I would call that relevant.

DoucheBag,
Chris Elliot still found work on "Everybody Loves Raymond" a few years back. He cracks me up everytime I see him. How relevant was Conan when he got the job? HE NEVER APPEARED ON TV!! In todays electronic world, you can become "relevant" with a crazy YOUTUBE video.
==================
Panther,
Thanks for "SHARKING" me on his daughter. I did not know that!
