I don't know. It might be better than reading Frank/ltg over the last few days.

Goldfinger is still my favorite Bond movie and is the best of the Connery era. Best one liner reply to a Bond quip ever.
Casino Royale is the best of all the Bond movies.
Live and let die is the best of the Moore era, but View to a Kill might he my favorite because it was the first one I saw and Jones and Walken were ridiculous in that movie.
Never liked Dalton.
HMSS was a pretty solid movie. Not on my top ten but good.

The whole Bond genre was right in my Dad's wheelhouse, some of the few movies I remember him taking time to see in the theatre. When my kids were little, we usually travelled to the In-Laws for Christmas, and Spike TV had them on a loop for a week or more. I was riveted to the set, and allowed the kids to watch with me late into the night, and they developed a love for the movies as well. They reminisce about those times now, and are anticipating this new film. It's cool the series can be claimed as theirs now, not just Dad's favorites, or Grandpa's favorites. The movies of my era are some of the weakest, but I still like it,

It took my a while to figure out that's what they were doing. I was a dumb kid. The Ninja shit was funny. I don't think there is a Connery or Moore one that I'm like "Hard pass". A lot of these I watched as a kid on Sunday night movie of the week or whatever it was and was a bit surprised. Was it Octopussy and Never Say Never Again that were released the same summer in some weird rights thing? Old Connery as bond was something.

Kevin McClory wrote the screenplay for Thunderball and kept the rights through a long legal battle that kept it from the Broccolis.

So, once he won his legal battle, he remade Thunderball as Never Say Never Again and brought Connery back to Bond.

It's not technically part of the Bond movie canon, if you will.

Thunderball was awful IMO. But, if you put yourself in the perspective of the time, underwater photography was the new thing and Bond movies are typically about the current, new thing. So, I imagine if you watched it in that time, it would have been amazing and worth the 6 hours of underwater scenes.

Those two were the first two I saw in theatre and 8 year old me didn’t care about cannon or not. it was just cool.

Thunder ball is not one of my favorites but it’s one I’ll be watch occasionally.

McClory also owned the rights to the name SPECTRE and Blofeld.

So the beginning of For Your Eyes Only when he dropped a Blofeld-type from the helicopter down a smokestack, was an FU to McClory.

Also why SPECTRE’s return in the last movie was a big deal.

the movies I loved when I was a kid were Moonraker, because I was all in on the space shuttle stuff and The Man With The Golden Gun because I really thought that shooting gallery was cool

There was one that scared me was Live and Let Die because of all the vodoo and zombies and the vodoo priest at the end who didn't die. Geoffrey Holder with that signature laugh has always given me the creeps. Luckily I never saw it in the theaters

My mom wants to rent out the theater for a screening for my dad's birthday but they will only allow it at an impossible time for most of the grandkids midday Sunday. My dad doesn't want to do it if everyone can't be there. I told my mom to have it Saturday and she was hesitant because it was $150 more. It's ridiculous that it would be a concern as they both have the means and there aren't a lot of Bond movies in their future.

Despite not being canon, I enjoyed Never Say Never Again, especially this scene:

YES! The video game scene with elderly people in the early '80s!

I told you guys. Bond always picks the most recent thing in a weird way.

Safin probably has actual bitcoins in this movie...in a briefcase.

This was the best explanation I saw for why this scene works: "I always saw it as Largo is clearly the better technical player and would win the standard country games. His mistake was playing Bond for the Rest of the World, increasing the pressure and the pain endured. When it's all on the line, that's where Bond lives. That's his edge."

I always got a kick out of The Spy Who Loved Me table with the rocket launching nut gun. Bond was about to get his junk shot off but was able to jump out of the way and then kill Stromberg by shooting him in the groin multiple times.

It felt like they were running out of ideas at that point.

They seem to have a fascination with Bond losing his junk. They did it again in Casino Royale when Le Chiffre wanted to cut them off and feed it to him.

The video game voice is also identical to the Cylone Warriors voices in the original Battlestar Galactica

And be arrested for assaulting a police officer?

I know you are all lawyers but I don't know what kind of stuff your family is into.

No thanks. I'll pirate the movie like normal people.

I also wonder if the "gun barrel" shots (such as at 6:13) were intended to also be a reference to the signature shots at the beginning of most Bond movies.

I haven’t kept up in years but might check this out. What did they mean the woman in black in the clip I saw is another 007? Shouldn’t she have a different number?

Anyway my first move so most loved is Live or Let Die.

007 is assigned. I don't think it's a spoiler to say Bond is basically retired and she has assumed the 007 title as the movie begins. That's been pretty widely shared.

That's why the receptionist guy in the trailer at MI6 looks at him funny when he comes back and just gives his name as Bond because he doesn't know who he is......and then dejectedly has to give his full name...James Bond. That's a funny twist on the required name. I'll bet he says it with more authority later in the movie.

My life goes in cycles. Weeks of being insanely busy and stressed and then times like the past few weeks where I can stop and take a breath.

There has been more of the former than the latter in the past few years.

My mom is in town for a few days and we are going to see this together tomorrow early afternoon. Should be fun. Last movie we went to together was The Crying Game. No way this could be that awkward.

I liked it overall. Maybe a big long but a nice way for Craig to go out.

Same. Enjoyed the action and lots of big name actors in there. I’ll be interested to see what others think. I’m far from a super fan and don’t recall every Craig movie.
