Horror movie released last year. It got mixed reviews, and I can see why. It's not perfect. But for those who can stand watching a computer screen for 80 minutes, it's an intriguing little flick. I like the concept: popular girl gets exploited by a viral video of her drunk at a party (and, i'm guessing, shitting herself); then, she commits suicide. on the 1st anniversary of her death, some people who knew her are in a Skype group chat, when suddenly a "stranger" appears in their room and they can't get rid of it. The stranger keeps fucking with them until it seems apparent they're dealing with the dead girl's ghost who is going to get revenge on all who wronged her.

the characters aren't anything special, really; the main girl, blaire, is the only one you could possibly try to identify with. but there's a lot of screaming, shouting, crying, and talking over each other.

the best part of the movie is the genuine attempt at making it look like you're part of the chat, a voyeur into the online world. it seems like a commentary on the millennial generation, how detached most of them are...and how they can still drive people to their graves.

one scene that comes to mind is when the main girl is reaching out for help...through chat roulette. amazingly she only comes across one dick picture. but she filters through a ton of uninterested, disengaged people who are just there for their own amusement.

i feel like that angle could've been played up even more, than some of the familiar tropes we see in all slasher horror films. and that's what this is...it's a slasher/ghost story.

over all, though, i have to admit i was entertained and intrigued throughout.

:D :D :D out of :D :D :D :D

Good review.

Watched this last year on Netflix with the woman. We both enjoyed it.

It pretty much comes down to this. If you enjoy horror/slasher/paranormal films then you'll most likely enjoy it. If you don't, you'll hate it.

I saw this earlier this year. Figured it would be a good mindless watch as my fiancee got ready. Ended up getting sucked in and watched the entire movie. Surprisingly good.

Liked it enough. The movie isn't great in terms of writing but the concept is what makes it interesting.
