From the Chicago Defender

Jerry Seinfeld and Kevin James were both in New York Thursday and took time out to heap praise on their respective shows, “Seinfeld” and “King of Queens”.

Said Seinfeld, “we really appreciate ‘King of Queens’; over the years, it has followed our show in syndication, in many major markets including Phoenix, Los Angeles and Chicago.”

In most major cities, the long running Seinfeld is paired with “King of Queens”, and even shares some actors, most notably Jerry Stiller. Stiller actually planned on retiring after leaving “Seinfeld”, but Kevin James convinced him to stay on and star on his new show, in 1998. James is quoted as having said that the show would not be a success without him, due to the fact that he was truly funny as an actor.

Kevin James was effusive in his praise for “Seinfeld” and specifically Jerry Stiller. “We tried to get all of the players from Seinfeld to come on our show, because we really knew that our show wasn’t very funny or original. When we convinced Stiller to stay on, we knew it might work [our show]”

Seinfeld went on to say that much like the comedian Kenny Bania (played by actor Steve Hytner), “King of Queens” is riding the coattails of “Seinfeld”. “We don’t have any episodes left in the can, so we can’t bomb an episode…but we’d sure like to, just to see how bad James’ show would bomb”. Seinfeld went on to suggest to any network airing their shows back to back that they should repeatedly show the final episode of “Seinfeld”. “That episode was terrible…I’d like to see ‘King of Queens’ succeed following that trash we put out in ‘98”.

James agreed with Seinfeld’s assessment. “I’ve heard from a lot of fans of ‘Seinfeld’ that they often fall asleep and wake up in the middle of an episode of our show, see Jerry Stiller and then have their hopes dashed when I walk into the room.”

Said James, “I’m sorry, America. I do have a new show now”

Thanks for that,I think?

Listen,I liked Seinfeld too. It was a funny show BUT K0Q still has me cracking up in reruns and yes Jerry Stiller was the funniest guy on that show. Kevin's show was very creative with bizarre camera angles and a fantastic supporting cast where even the bit players (Carries office group) got in some funny lines. I loved that show.
