I would say that it will be very dependent on what type of movie you like. It's not a traditional SciFi movie. That said, it has a strong "side story" that a lot of people ptobably really enjoy. It just wasn't the type of movie I'm drawn to. I almost never agree with critics, though. This is at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.

I loved Contact and liked this movie. Didn't love it; didn't hate it. Just thought the reviews were a little generous. If you watch it, I'd be curious to know what you think.

I loved Contact (and the book was outstanding) but just didn't get into Arrival.

I loved Interstellar, liked The Martian, and hated Gravity.

I really, really enjoyed this movie. It checks all the boxes of a great film. Story, acting, cinematography, pacing, conflict, conclusion were all expertly pulled off.

ImO this is a film you have to let go of for a few days, a week, or even a month. Then re-evaluate.

I must say my opinion is a little bias as I am a BIGFAN of Dennis Villeneuve.

Yeah, but I didn't really think about the ending at the time. I just thought it was a dumb ending. I was 13 when I saw it and thought aliens were really cool.

It was very good but not great. I was really intrigued by the analysis of the language and how they tried to communicate with the
aliens. Still scratching my head a bit about the very end and what she told the Chinese guy to make him stop an all out war. Did
she tell him what she said after the wife had died or did he tell her what she said before she had actually died. I probably should have
just backed the movie up and figured that one out.

Rented this today. I would agree with the very good but not great reviews. It's not as good as its RT score IMO. It felt very rushed, although the content was good and the idea had a lot of promise. This could have been fantastic as an 8 episode HBO mini series.
