Alright, who is going to jump on board and check out the new series with Matthew McConaughey and
Woody Harrelson? Starts January 12th on HBO. Only 8 episodes.

Checked out the first episode this morning before work. I have to say I think it is off to a great start.
There wasn't a lot of wasted dialogue or scenes. I wasn't sure how it was going to work out with
the new detectives interviewing Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, then cutting back to the
past but I thought it was seamless and well done. The acting so far has been well done and I am very
intrigued by this serial killer they are just starting to track. I really loved how the first episode ended
with McConaughey telling the detectives they needed to start asking the right questions. I think this is
going to be a nice, tight, and intense 8 episode series.

Great start. Saw the ads for it and thought it was a movie I missed in the Theaters, due to the names in the show.

Seems to be a good start and I am expecting some type of silence of the lambs twist at the end as it seems too simple to figure it out.

Still insults anyones intelligence that it is back to back with the MTV show

It does have a little bit of that vibe. The fact that it appears that they put the wrong guy in prison for
the crimes in the past and the killer was still on the loose didn't surprise McConaughey's character in the least.

Too twisted in Ep 1 to be that easy to conclude.

Yes, a show that makes one think.

Just read this in a review...

McConaughey’s stillness is a perfect match for the frustrated energy of Harrelson as Hart.(**) Hart considers himself an easy-going family man with all the answers to life and the job, but we learn in time that there are many dark ripples beneath his placid surface, and that Cohle may in fact be the saner — or, at least, more self-aware — half of the partnership. Hart’s problem is that he’s in denial about who he really is; Cohle’s problem is that he knows too much about who he is and what he’s capable of.

Can't wait to see what he's talking about.

I thought it was great. Some of Rust's dialogue was borderline ridiculous but he pulled it off and made it sound real.

Also, loved the beer at Noon on Thursday scene.

Saw it. Like it. Harrelson and McConaughey are playing their characters well.

First time I've ever seen McConaughey where he wasn't a pretty boy. He also looks like he lost a lot of weight for this role. You really couldn't recognize him. Looks like a totally different person. Didn't even die his hair for the part.

The obvious leap is that McConaughey character is the serial killer. But that probably isn't the case cuz it is too obvious. Maybe it's Harrelson's character.

Anyway, I'm hooked.

He lost the weight for his role in Dallas Buyers Club.

I hope they don't go that route. I would be disappointed if they dubbed either of the two lead characters as the killer. They can do better than that.

Yeah, I really don't see that happening. I really can't wait to see the next episode and where this story takes us.

No. He's not doing that interview from jail. He had a flask and was dressed in civilian clothing. Prisoners aren't allowed to have flasks. He said his day off is on Thursdays and he drinks at noon. I'm assuming he's no longer in law enforcement and has a different type of job. He's just doing the interview cuz the black detectives want info since the serial killer has struck again. Info that only he might have since he was investigating the first killing. That's all.

An arrest and conviction was made on the '95 killing. I think it's clear that McConogey's character always new they got the wrong guy by the way he was talking to those detectives. He probably expressed this at the time but was ignored by his superiors. That's when he got out of law enforcement and became a alcoholic.

The series will use an anthology format, with each season featuring a different cast of characters and story.

Only 8 episodes this season.

Another really solid episode last night. This show just keeps me wanting more. That young chick that
Harrelson has on the side was incredible IMO.

Why doesn't Judd Apatow produce a fucking show where she's naked all the time?

Because then it wouldn't be art with subtext and super deep hidden meaning that only smart people can see.

LOVED that scene where she was walking around with no pants, just bare-butted!

Looking at the two interviewer guys, they do not seem to be from The South - maybe another incident occurred somewhere in the North, Northeast, or West?

Either that or maybe they are feds of some sort. I never paid attention if they really introduced themselves
with titles.

There has to be something meaningful about the two original cops on the case being fair haired and white while the two cold case cops are black and bald. I don't believe we have seen a single other African American cop in the first two episodes.

I don't think it is how this will turn out but I was thinking maybe Harrelson and Mc Conaghey are in some kind of purgatory being required to recount their lives to discover who they really are, like in Angel Heart.

Watched it last night. This line and the delivery by McConaughey was quite something. He was talking about his dead daughter and how he has now realized that it's just evil to have children.

The hubris it must take to yank a soul out of non existence, into this, meat. And to force a life into this, thresher. Yeah so my daughter, she uh, she spared me the sin of being a father.

I gave this a shot last night with Episode 2. I echo the comments on Woody's side action. The show has promise. I thought it was a little on the slow side, but interesting nonetheless. I am recording the series, so we'll see.

It is a bit slow. They are almost over-doing it with it being so dialogue-intensive, but at least they had that toolbox-bashing scene.

If it wasn't carried by 2 such huge stars, I think the show might see much lower numbers.

I think it has been really good dialogue-wise. You have to pay attention to what they are saying but they
don't go on long 5 minute conversations. The show moves along pretty good. I agree the toolbox scene
was good to see exactly what that character is capable of. I have high hopes this Sunday after seeing
the previews for the next episode.

I really don't know I am not checking him out that closely. It's possible that is due to when they shot certain
scenes. I am guessing he did this after Dallas Buyers Club where he lost an awful lot of weight to play someone
with AIDS. He may have put some weight back on when they shot that scene.

Indeed. To me how tiny he looked next to Woody in Ep1 just stuck out, though.

and did you see that bulge in his pants?
