How did I not hear of this till a week ago? I mean, I heard of it, but I just assumed it sucked cause it was on Amazon. Saw that it won the golden globe for best tv show and best actress and heard it was real good so gave it a shot.

I'm 4 episodes into the 8 ep season and I think I can say this is my favorite show on tv now. It's fantastic.

It's about a jewish housewife in the 50s living NYC, her husband leaves her and stumbles into stand up comedy. The main star is really good...and pretty hot...and she has amazing tits which you see in Ep 1. And she's from Milwaukee. She's great, but Tony Shalhoub steals every scene he's in as her dad.

Tl:dr = Tbone, here's a show you can watch with your wife that doesn't suck for a change.

I'm pretty sure she's from Highland Park. Looks like you missed your chance to bag her in the Charlie Beinlich's parking lot.

I dont know, took you 4 posts to say it was "dope". Earlier posts included "I don't know" and "boring" and "horrible show, no way this ever gets good. I'll never trust Shakes' opinion on tv shows again! die in fire"

 I'll let her know. We can give it a try when finished with the PBS series "Victoria" which she is currently on. I
would not recommend that one for you.

she was raised there, but she was born in milwaukee.

i'm always iffy when shows/movies are about stand-up. this was created by the person who did "gilmore girls". we just caught up on "the crown" so it might be a possible replacement.

then again, i really want to check out "waco" too.

I have a tough time accepting that actor as Prince Albert. He'll always be Jes and Jules's soccer coach to me!

I have never seen him in anything else that I am aware of. Based on this picture of the guy he is relatively close.

The actress playing Victoria looks nothing like the real person....

I really hate that show Crashing and only occasionally watch because of Artie. I'd like to punch the lead in the face every time I see him. Judd Apatow seems to be able to keep shows going on HBO despite low ratings and bad content.

My wife and I watched the first 3 or 4 episodes, other than seeing the lead actress t0pless I really can't get into this one.
Neither of us really gets all the hype. Not sure if we are going to finish the season or not.

I finished watching the first season this evening. I thought it was entertaining. Miriam is very funny and very cute. Seeing her breasts was quite pleasant. I hope Alex Borstein stays fully clothed for the duration of the series. Tony Shaloub, who I almost always like, gives a good performance as Miriam's father.

I gave this show a try and it didn't work for me. That's fine, it's not for me. Except the breasts, which emphatically were.

I like the show but it seems more like you are watching a musical or some vaudeville comedy. The characters are really cartoonish and they all have an Aaron Sorkin type of non genuine dialogue.

Also, and I hate to be the one to point it out, but the Miriam's stand up isn't funny. It isn't really even stand up. The show is much funnier off stage than on.

You might think this is a negative review but overall I really do like it.

This show is horrific and its creator, Amy Sherman Palladino, should be put on trial for her many crimes against humanity (which, it should be noted, include the fantastically awful Gilmore Girls, possibly the worst television show in the history of bad television).

TV shows write themselves into this corner all the time: it's hard to do great artistic material within a show because more often than not, it's far from great, and then you have to beat the audience over the head with the lie. Speaking of Sorkin, this was one problem among many that Studio 60 had, where we were supposed to believe the show-within-a-show was a brilliant comedy program that changed the world every week but all it was was some dumb Gilbert & Sullivan parodies and sketches that wouldn't be funny enough for bad episodes of SNL. Of course, The Larry Sanders Show got around this by constantly acknowledging that the talk show was mediocre and constantly underwhelmed its network executives.

I finished the first season.

I liked it. Her standup is still not all that funny and it seems like the script about her life is written only to set up a stand up joke.

The dialogue is not from that era in many instances. It's almost as if the writer had a modern political perspective he or she wanted to shoehorn in despite it being an anachronism.

I noticed that, too. It's a little annoying and I hope it doesn't start to happen more often in coming seasons.

Season 2 hit a couple days ago. The first episode is visually stunning and choreographed like an old school musical...or something like that. I really like it.

I'm liking season 2. The backdrop of the catskills is brilliant on both a meta and mesa (yeah, I had to search for the antonym of meta and I'm still not sure it is correct) level. I think this season is far less focused on the making of a comedian and instead has become an ensemble comedy about a jewish family from 1950s new York. I think you could make the argument Tony Sholub is the star.

Rachel Brosnahan really does play this perfectly. The look from the time period also really works for her because I have seen pictures of her from outside of the show and she is unremarkable.
