I was a movie geek for a long time. I started working in video store when I was 15. I loved film way bfore that .When I was a kid we had one of those showtime antennas.
The two movies when I was a kid that really made me a movie freak besides Star Wars,I refuse to call it New Hope or Eps 4, was I was sick and laying on my couch in the front room and I watched Casablanca.Blew me away,everything was just perfect and seemed to just flow. The next one and this one is embarrassing is Officer and a Gentleman. I waited until everyone was asleep and watched it. Geer was okay but Gosset was the one that made me watch it till 3am. Dude was intense and at the end when he saluted him was just wow.
Now only Casablanca is in my top 10. I remember still the first time I saw seven Samurai in the theater at the Music Box Theater. I had to lie to my mom to see it.
Another one that stands out is Arlington Road, no that it was that great a movie but in that the bad guy won and he won in such a fucked up way. I am still a Highlander Geek and God do I wish they made the sequels to Dr Detroit,Remo Williams and Streets of Fire(they did but hard to find) and don't let me forget Buckaroo banzai.
I love film,when I met Kevin Smith I was a blubbering idiot. He was like slow down and talk. I went total fan boy.

I rented the The Dark Knight around Christmas the year it came out and was not thinking much about it. My fiance had a work party and it was before we had kids so I was home alone and was just looking for something to watch. I am not a movie guy anymore but I had heard some buzz about it and I knew Heath Ledger was good as the Joker. I watched it and was like "Holy shit. I think that's the best movie I've ever seen." I watched it again the next day before returning it. It's the only movie I have watched 2 days in a row.

I saw Crash in the theaters since this girl I was dating wanted to see it. I had no idea what it was about and was rather relatively blown away by it.

Speed, Terminator 2, and Apollo 13 would fit in this category as well.
