Dark horror film directed by Gareth Evans who is responsible for 2 of the best action films I've ever seen in the "Raid" franchise.

Stars Dan Stevens from the TV show "Legion".

Available on Netflix October 12.

wasn't this a film in the late 80s starring Val Kilmer and that rat bastard Doc Noisewater's girlfriend Elizabeth Shue?

lol, yeah at first i thought "this isn't a remake of the robert duvall film..." and then had to double check to make sure hawaiiyou didn't start the thread, because my second thought would be "oh, not a remake. just a decades-long late thread."

looks like a better version of "the witch".

Maybe watching this tonight since it was released today. Reading good things. Hopefully, not too torture-porny.

I had to sit through this really bad horror film called "Eloise" (i thought at first it was going to be a chick flick or a kid's movie) in order to get to watch this one.

so it's basically a mix of "the wicker man" and "the witch" (and even "silent hill") and parts of it are better than both and parts of it are a little weak. it's definitely gruesome and graphic, lots of blood and pushing the boundaries of good taste.

but dan stevens absolutely owns this movie. i never really thought too much about the actor but now i'm really intrigued to see him in other stuff. i know he's beast in "beauty and the beast".

there's definitely a lot of religious symbolism and metaphors. but there's also bludgeoning, brutal in-your-face stuff that goes a little over the top.

i also loved michael sheen in it. he's crazy and a little scary, but he's also somewhat likable.

overall, i found it pretty damn good. but it is a bit long, and i think maybe shaving 15-20 minutes off would have made it sharper. also, some of the characters could've been fleshed out a little more (no pun intended).

:D :D :D out of :D :D :D :D

Dan Stevens is great in "Legion".

100% agree with WZ.

Acting overall was very strong. The atmospheric horror of the film was very good. A little torture porny, but I think director Gareth Evans blended as many horror genres as possible into a strong Halloween season film. Some scenes are not for the squeamish.

Stevens is one of the better actors out there, and this performance definitely reinforces that.

I also found a grudging respect for Michael Sheen's character.

I do wish some further back story was introduced, but overall I was satisfied with this movie.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Stevens in season 3 of Legion, and hopefully Evans is directing the Deathstroke film. If you are an action movie fan and haven't seen Evans' most well known films titled: "The Raid: Redemption" and "Raid 2" you are seriously missing out on some of the best fight choreography/set pieces ever put on film.

Watched last night and really enjoyed it. Solid scary movie to start off the season.

The Haunted Hill series is next.
