I was spotty on the other 60% and just ate shit on the rest. But I'm so glad they're doing this, even if it makes me feel like an idiot.

It's a shame Brad's been the butt of so many jokes because at his peak he decisively beat Ken in the Ultimate Tournament of Champions. It was kind of predictable after the way he got blasted by Alex Jacob that one round in the all-star game last season, but people pretending he didn't belong at all is silly.

Where'd it all go wrong for him? He got too old for a young man's game? He just had a bad couple days?

Those questions were impossible. I didn’t even understand the premise of some of those categories and I usually can keep up in the regular games.

That was impressive.

Too old I think. He said he thought he thought he didn't prepare enough with the buzzer during one of the interviews, but I think it was the processing more than anything else, especially with the harder clues. Despite the bad round against Jacob I mentioned, he was still good enough to go toe-to-toe with Ken on the buzzer in the final of the all-star game (and won thanks to daily double luck and having the best team), but that tournament had an extremely low level of difficulty compared to every other tournament I've seen with returning players.

Brad screwed James because he ate up most of the Daily Doubles.

Fun tournament to watch. My wife and I can usually get 25 or so right on a regular game but we were stumped regularly on this. Mostly 200 or 400 questions when we did get them correct. Jennings really got out of his comfort zone with going all in and it paid off. James was beaten by his own strategy

I kind of liked how ALex is relaxed given what is in front of him. Also liked how they let the guys chirp at each other in fun. When James said that everyone but Brad's score changed to start a new round I was dying.

I assume each of the participants were paid for their appearance in addition to whatever each might win playing the game.

I always wondered how much control the producers have once the game starts. For example, can they change the difficulty of the questions based on how the game is going? Would they change the categories in Double Jeopardy to help a certain player? Can they change the location of the Daily Doubles? Would they make the Final Jeopardy question easier/harder depending on who is winning and who they'd like to win (for ratings)?

Based on this tournament's results, I suppose the answer is they don't, considering they probably wanted James to win another round and Brad not to get shut out. Though maybe it wouldn't have made a difference.

Well they didn't play for money. They made sure to keep calling the score points. At the end they showed winner with $1M and the two losers $250k.

Winner was guaranteed a million, runners-up $250,000. The guarantees for the normal 15-player tournaments are minimums in the unlikely event that the players outscore them (I don't recall a time that someone has). These were just set figures and they "played for points."

It's easy to lose sight of it because it's big prize money for civilians but game shows really are low-budget programming that can produce an excellent ROI if done right. Sounds like these shows had some excellent ratings.

They haven't wrapped the syndicated season, I'm sure the goodbye is coming then. Or he'll die with his boots on, who knows.

btw! Test again in two weeks. I'll be taking it!

Yeah, there was briefly a Twitter (where else?) spat about how Jeopardy is biased against women because it rewards "male" knowledge. Yeah, the show that regularly has questions on Shakespeare, opera, the English monarchy, and the Tapestry of Bayeux: just guy stuff we talk about with our bros!
