I felt the same way about Pole Position when they made it for Nintendo.

The Animatrix was better than the sequels by a mile.

1)Humans create AI
2)AI takes over the world and enslaves humans as batteries
3)AI creates a virtual world (The Matrix) to keep the mind separated from reality (the real apocalyptic world)
4)Humans start becoming self aware and wake up from the Matrix to start a revolution
5)AI adjusts and re-programs itself to adjust to the "anomaly"
6)The rebellion is repeated on a loop until the latest anomaly, Neo recognizes the loop and that he can not win.
7)Neo makes a deal with the AI to stop hunting humans in the real world, but keep them enslaved in The Matrix.
AI adjusts to the new system and the credits roll.

These machines are capable of incredible virtual world, and create other machines to hunt humans and have automation to store and use humans... but cannot build a generator? No reactors? Needing warm bodies for electricity is by far the stupidest thing I've ever been asked to suspend disbelief of.

I mean it has to be that. We wouldn't keep a virus around, which is the premise of what humans are in this, just as an inefficient fuel source? The cost of feeding that fuel source has to outweigh what they harvest from it. humans are not the most efficient thing in nature, when say they could just split an atom, which they don't have to feed and have plenty of power for a while. the hubris with humans in all of this is we really think that AI will still have the same fatal lack of logic that we humans have. Maybe the idea is right, Us humans pretty much carry the flaws of the "gods" that made us.
