I caught wind of this a couple years ago because a buddy of mine who owns Island Foods in Island Lake had agreed to let them film in his grocery store. It was largely filmed in the areas around the Darkside Estates so I was interested enough. It's got Sissy Spacek and JK Simmons. Some star power.
So basically an old fart and his wheelchair bound wife find a portal to another world in their... shed. Their son killed himself, probably because his parents are incredibly boring, and their grief over being boring drives a lot of boring action. The comic relief is given by a fruity neighbor who is, interestingly enough, just as boring as Simmons and Spacek. Some Richard ramirez looking fuck shows up and acts like a cross between Buddah and Spuds MacKenzie. He drives more boredom and eventually confusion. This series was boring enough that their Emmy scene is probably the amazingly well shot running out of gas scene.
By the time you're at the penultimate episode, you'll have no fucking clue what's going on and you'll be (hopefully) resisting the urge to shove pencils in your eyeballs.
The series was clearly set up for a second season, but enough people in this country are suicidal as it is so I don't think it's being renewed.

Many that is true, but an incomplete statement.
