Maybe this has been posted before, but I didn't get around to watching it till recently. A couple of the WBBM news ladies started up a podcast talking about how the news world sucks, and they had Giangreco on as a guest. He signed some stuff where he can't talk about stufff, but he basically talks about it. I don't think it will surprise anyone. What *DID* surprise me, however, is that I've enjoyed watching a few of these other episodes... admittedly I have only seen about 4 or 5, but they are generally interesting. Of course, I'd love to see one on the radio biz, but that seems less likely to happen, and there's enough meat on the bone here to make this worthwhile.

I feel like this certainly has been posted before. Well, apologies to any who I have messed up their new posts feed! :P

Erin is benefiting from studio-style lighting and A LOT of makeup.

Giangreco says that Channel 7 won a recent ratings book for the 10:00 PM news averaging a 1.1, which is about 37,400 viewers. I knew the viewing audience for local news had shrunk, but I didn't realize it had gotten that small. No wonder Larry is back on local TV. With ratings like that, Chicago stations can't afford to pay very well.

Not that long ago her and Marissa Bailey did the CBS local news before 7am national. Megan did weather. I enjoyed the visuals

He, just like many others in the early nineties imho had an act that grew very stale not long after the only solid Chicago team was the Bulls. Before he got canned by WLS, his output was completely predictable and generally a waste of four minutes with espn clearing the field

My only real memories of the guy was when he was with McMichael. I mostly hate watched Jim Rose.

I bet Megan Glaros would be a party.

Who does Giangreco think he's fooling being a perfectionist. His broadcasts always had the production value of a guy flying by the seat of his pants. Him being a workaholic probably is a cover for not coming home until late at night.

Who are the big names in local news now. I know no one on 2 or 5. 9 probably has the most identifiable people.

That last bit is certainly true. 30 years ago you knew every news anchor, weather guy and sportscaster for each of the local channels. They were celebrities making good money. As much as we focus on the death of radio and print media, local news (outside of WGN perhaps) is fading fast.

I know the Giangrecos are liberal democrats. His brother is a political strategist I've met a few times. They look the same facially but the brother is short and kind of dumpy with none of the italian features. Despite saying it several times though, Mark isn't really a liberal by today's standards. He's a chicago democrat type.

I liked when Giangreco would go on Waddle and Silvy and then take them out to bars and get Waddle smashed before he had to train it back to the burbs.

Are these 2 anchor chicks unemployed still?

Erin looks like she's either learned how to apply filters to her video stream or she's 24/7 in anchor girl makeup. IkeSouth would be buying Megan fireball shots at Wando's.

He didn't really reveal anything groundbreaking. I don't dislike Giangreco, but I never get a shit about any sports anchor.
Johnny Morris and Drunk Ditka were pretty funny to watch.

A member of extended family via marriages got to know Giangreco a bit over his last 5-6 years at 7 from hanging out at the same Wilmette diner a couple of mornings each week. She said that he was a surprisingly genuine guy, in a good way.
