New comedy on HBO from Danny McBride about a family of televangelists.

John Goodman, McBride, Adam Devine are the preaching Gemstone family, while Dermot Mulroney is a small-time preacher who is against the family. Walton Goggins shows up as well.

Pretty funny through 2 episodes.

Noted but, in fairness, you will binge watch a test pattern.

Does McBride have photos of an HBO exec? How many shows are they going to give that guy?

This is the third and final character he wants to do in this format.

“Eastbound & Down” and “Vice Principals” are great dark comedies.

I don’t think he needs to blackmail anyone to get them green lit.

This show has been pretty good. Part of me wants the full hour, but that might be a little too much. The only episode I didn't like was the flashback the entire show. I LOVE Baby Billy.

I've watched every episode. Episode 8, the last one, was particularly compelling...

All the characters are really well acted, Danny McBride drives me nuts but the others are really good actors/actresses. This one's a keeper, but I don't really know if they can sustain this another season or two. If it gets super depressing, I might have to tune away.

Be a miracle if baby jesus could bless McBride to throw a fast-ball off the mound without looking like he's having an epileptic fit.

agreed.

The second season, however dropped any connective tissue to real world things and appeared thrown together and poorly thought out. Still somewhat entertaining but it didn't keep me guessing like the first season did and the characters who are supposed to annoy you did so without much challenge from characters who didn't annoy you. John Goodman spent too much time off-screen and showed how he really keeps the show running.

Very watchable show. Hadn’t really gotten into it until this year but watched the three seasons.

I like this version of McBride’s southern asshole character slightly better than the others.

Agreed. I watched the three seasons over this summer and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great acting and an outrageous story line. There's a little too much cock in the show for my liking but some of you will enjoy that part of it.

One of those where there’s zero female nudity and buttload of dick.

it was ok. no where as funny as Vice Principles and East Bound and Down.

Brother Baby Billy was the funniest character on the show but he's not utilized much at all in season 3.

The best one right here :

Baby Billy’s Bible Bonkers in S3 was a fantastic through line.

4 episodes in and not sure whether to pull the plug. It’s been funny at times and the characters are just stupid. Worth finishing season 1? Beyond that?

I thought it got better in seasons 2 and 3. Should you keep watching it? Depends on what else you have to watch. I enjoyed it but I'm not raving about it to friends.

I liked it when I watched it (and when I posted about it about a month ago), but I barely remember it now.

Between the storylines with Kelvin's muscle men and the cycle ninjas, I didn't find Season 2 as funny or enjoyable as Seasons 1 and the 3. Jesse, Judy (especially Judy) and Kelvin are usually incomprehensibly stupid, but they're supposed to be. The last couple of episodes of Season 3 got way too penis flappy.

Uncle Baby Billy was probably my favorite character in the series. A pretty shitty person, but an entertaining character. There Will Come a Payday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6W9qoIN-QU -- the outfit and the song kill me, and I'll sometimes think of the name "Uncle Baby Billy's Bible Bonkers" (Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers) and it will make me laugh to myself a little bit.

DAC with another great post.

Exactly. I only watched it because of it's danny mcbride and walton goggins. It was ok but it was not on the level of Vice Principals or Eastbound and Down.

As I said before, not using Baby Billy as the #2 character on the show was a mistake. I did like the female sister character Judy Gemstone and the guy who played her husband, but it took away from Baby Billy/Goggins who was hilarious every time he was on the screen.

My fav's :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6IRIaFiiIQ

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-znj7Uf9Oo

this walter goggins guy is a fucking great comedian. he's great in everything he does.

McBride/Goggins were on the cusp of being the next Hope/Crosby, Martin/Lewis, etc.... Hope the next project they do they go back to the winning formula.
