I watched it this weekend on Demand. It was okay; not nearly as good as American Psycho. Most of my problems with it were superficial, though.
A few notes:
James Van der Beek looked like he was 35 years old (which he might have been at the time). He wasn't to convincing as a college freshman.
I see your point but I thought he was excellent.

Jessical Biel didn't get naked. I didn't think she would, but I was hoping.

Was that Eric Stoltz as the teacher that got the hummer? Tremendous.
Yes.

I LOVED the scene where Sunshine from Remember the Titans talked about his trip to Europe.
My favorite sequence of the whole film.

I liked the Sopranos-esque ending.
It's meant to be a palindrome-like ending, beginning is the end is the beginning. It's harped on more in the book. The book begins in the middle of a sentence and ends in the middle of a sentence I believe. Not meant to have an ending because the point of it is this type of lifestyle, etc. doesn't end. Something like that.
I agree it wasn't as potent as "American Psycho" but I thought the satire was there, and that some of it was goddamn hilarious.
