Need a movie where the theme is friendship for a 7th grade class. We are finishing up a chapter in Religion on friendship/peer pressure etc and would like to show them a movie where this is the theme. My initial though was Stand by Me but that is rated R. I can show Pg13 within reason.

I've used it in a child development class b/c it shows really good examples of fitting in/peer pressure/problem solving for that time period with kids.

I recommend "The Mighty". Perfect for that age group.

From IMDB... "This tells the story of a strong friendship between a young boy with Morquio's syndrome and an older boy who is always bullied because of his size."

It's a great story about an unlikely friendship and finding the strength to be yourself. It's pretty sad at the end, but the message comes through crystal clear for kids the age you are speaking about.

well finally I can but my 25 years working at Video stores to use .
I would recomend
1 Sandlot .Best you are looking for . PG rating comes because they didn't want G rating so there are 3 cuss words in it .
2 Mighty Ubove post is right on
3 Heavyweights
4 Simon Birch - came out same tiem as Mighty based on same source material .It does have 3 bigger good points and one bad point over mighty .
good 1 Stronger cast
2 more realism in it
3 once again young kids and baseball
bad its kind of intense esp the who is my dad theme and the bus accident
Its PG but like i said it has some intense scenes

5 Harry Potter and the Sorcerers stone .Shows the forming of friendships that are realistic and warts and all .
It is also high enough on the kids radar to not seem too old

"Holes" hits on all the topics you're looking for, as does "Big".

I recommend "IT", which was a made for TV movie and had no rating. It's about a reunion of childhood friends and a clown, so the kids should really dig it.

ugh..."simon birch". friggin insult to the original book.

"The Goonies" would be my suggestion, since all the other good ones have been taken.

or just show a whole bunch of episodes of "the wonder years". :)

Lord of the Flies or Elephant ought to do the trick.

Show them Kids or Thirteen. It might not get your point across, but it'll scare the fuck out of them.

Seriously though, License To Drive deals with peer pressure pretty well. I'm just not sure the subject matter is appropriate for your kids. Then again thinking preteens don't know the "swears', AND use them is pretty naive. That's not a shot at you dude. I know in a school setting, especially in these litigous times, you must tread very carefully.

Kids is a good movie cant show that though  . It varies year to year, some parents throw a fit if I show a pg 13 (like last year) others years weve shown movies that while not R, should not have been shown in school and no one said a word.

Wow! Great suggestion. I forgot all about that flick. Has Matt Dillon done a bad movie? Oh yeah, Flamingo Kid. I'll ammend my question, has Matt Dillon ever given a bad performance. Depp and Downey Jr are always mentioned as the best of their generation (and deservervedly so), I just think Dillon gets overlooked.

THREAD HIJACK ALERT!!!

Top 5 Matt Dillon movies:
1.Drugstore Cowboy (if you haven't seen it..DO IT!)
2.The Outsiders (my alter ego Dallas Winston)
3.Crash (great movie. his feeling up of Thandie Newton, while uncomfortable, was pretty hot)
4.Beautiful Girls (underrated movie IMO)
5.Wild Things (Neve Campbell and Denise Richards in a lesbo scene!!)

I would put Rumble Fish(Mikey Roakre and in B/W ) or The big town ( Sorry Diane Lane is hot in anything ,has anyone gotten older and still look that young ?0 instead of Wild things

I agree but I would put
