Just curious if anyone else caught the new vampire series on HBO
called True Blood. Wasn't too impressed initially, I guess it is something
different but the acting was subpar and I am not sure where the storyline
is going to go. I will give it a few more episodes.

I completely forgot about it but I wanted to give it a shot being an Alan Ball fan, especially "Six Feet Under".

I'm a bit tired of the vampire motif but I wanted to check this out. I'll look it up on On Demand...

what ever happened to Babylon Fields? It was a TV show they never aired on Zombies rising from the dead and co-existing with their loved ones after they had thought they had died. I couldn't tell if it was a comedy or a drama from the spots I saw. I imagine True Blood has a little bit of this quality, correct?

Not familiar with Babylon Fields. As for True Blood... seems to me to be a
vampire show with the main blood sucker as a vampire with a "heart" as he
seems to have a crush on the lead. She apparently can read people's minds
which will undoubtedly come into play numerous times. I see this as maybe
sustainable for a few years but they have to get out of this little town and
go to a metropolis. The brother has an interesting run-in with a vamp lover
so I am guessing he will turn eventually somehow. Tune in for more. Still
waiting for the official review from W_Z.

I have it tivo'd and have yet to check it out between:

Bears SNF
Mac and Bernsie on NBC5
Entourage (yawn)
MNF
White Sox game

I did catch Fight Club earlier this morning on HBO. What an awesome flick. The narrative at the beginning cracks me up.

I'll be honest, I flipped it on the other day, didn't know what it was, thought it would be stupid once I started watching, but I was captivated with it. Something about it made me not flip the channel.

The gap tooth girl is some what facinating to me. Weird they would cast her. She's not beautiful. Didn't get her teeth fixed. Rare to see a girl like that get a role in this day 'n' age. But there is something about her that I like. Don't know what it is.

The first episode got me curious. It's modern times where people are accepting of vampires. They know they exist and some people are fighting for their rights with laws and such. It's weird. Probably will get stupid. That one waitress is hot. They did show some tits. I'll keep watching.

Second episode keeps me curious. I like the concept better than I did in the
original episode. Still an interesting genre. A vampire show spanning possibly
more than 1-2 seasons could bear some fruit. Acting not as bad as I thought
although heavy handed at points. I liked some of the camera angles. I will contine
to watch. Maybe big town hopes aren't better as I thought before. Small town
let's you get into characters a bit better.

It seems to draw parallels between queers and vampires.

They suck!

I think you're talking about Anna Paquin. She is a pretty well known actress, having been in the X-Men films and other movies.

It looks like John Dahl, who has made some very entertaining movies like Rounders, Red Rock West, and a couple others I can't remember, is the show's director. I'll watch.

Checked out episode 3 last night. Just when you think thinkgs can't get any darker and stranger...
they do. I have never seen a show quite like this. Kind of in the same strangeness category as
Twin Peaks but I enjoy this a bit more and easier to follow. The gore has been pretty good, although this past episode there wasn't as much. The sexual overtones are everywhere and you never know who might sleep with him/her or what next. I am going to keep watching as the previews for next week look extremely interesting when they go to a vampire bar in a bigger city.

Anna Paquin isn't pretty, but definitely sexy.

Not pretty but definitely sexy would sum it up for this program. Her outfits mostly consist of
very short shorts and tank tops. She's got a nice body.

Managed to squeeze in the 4th episode before the Sox game. I don't get the feeling many on this board are watching but the series is getting better and better. After another murder in the town people are really on edge and starting to point fingers at the suspect, who is the main character
Suki's brother. She starts using her ability to read minds to try to clear her brothers name. The brother has an interesting reaction to the drugs he takes early in the episode which causes some funny and painful consequences. The main vampire Bill takes Suki to a vampire bar in which they
meet some interesting characters and need to leave in a hurry after a police raid. Suki and Bill are
pulled over on the way home and we find out that Bill has the ability to scare/influence others quite well when he vamps out. Pretty straight forward episode but good.

Anna Paquin ain't shit.

She was naked in Almost Famous - or wearing sheer underwear.

Get over yourselves.

I'd like to see that other little bartender hottie nude. Mmm...

I guess I can categorize you as a "The Darker the Berry the Sweeter the Juice"
guy then Slick? As for Paquin, she's not the best out there but she is making
white trash look good in this series. I hope we get to see the other bartender
in the buff as well but they had a chance when she gave it up to the owner and
we got nothing so I doubt it.

sex scenes. Not bad, not bad at all....

Has anyone been watching season 2 of True Blood? It has been
pretty interesting with a number of new characters and a lot of
action. It is definitely a very strange show but my wife and I
haven't been able to stop watching it.

This show is crazy, but in a good way. Season 2 has been great.
Not too late to get in if you rent Season 1. Only 3 more episodes
left for this installment but I see this going for a few more years.
W_Z I am surprised you haven't tried this one being that you like
the horror genre. This probably wouldn't qualify but a good show
nonetheless.

I like this season but I was never sure what the point of Maryann is. And after watching the season finale I still don't know. Other than that I'd do her. Claws and all.

Season 2 was pretty good. I could see how some people may not like it
but I enjoy the twisted nature of it. I like a lot of the humor as well with
Sookie's stupid brother and the drunk cop. I would still recommend this
to anyone with HBO looking for a show to get into. Season 1 is on DVD
and they will probably play Season 2 in reruns. I would guess the show
would be back on sometime in the spring.

My wife finished reading the books, so she wanted to see the show (I haven't read the books). We've seen the first 4 episodes of season 1 so far. Neither one of us is much of a fan yet, but still watching. I didn't realize how "campy" the show is. (I'm not even exactly sure what that means, but it's how I feel watching it :drunken: ) For whatever it's worth, my wife says a lot of stuff is different than the book, but that's usually the case.

Casual Fan, I looked into getting the books for my wife and upon reading the
reviews discovered that people had mentioned the books are very different
from the HBO series. Depending on what you like, that may either be a good
or bad thing. It took me a few episodes to warm up to the series in Season 1.
I went into it almost hoping NOT to like it, as I am not into that type of genre,
but it drew me in and I really enjoy it now.
