Jay Leno's Prime-Time Show Ending In Feb.

http://cbs2chicago.com/entertainment/ja ... 16952.html

An NBC executive confirmed Sunday that Jay Leno's nightly prime-time show would be ending next month, according to the Associated Press. NBC had been considering moving Leno back to late-night TV because its affiliates are upset that the show's low prime-time ratings are hurting late local news programs.

NBC Universal Television Entertainment Chairman Jeff Gaspin said Sunday that Leno's nightly prime-time show will end with the beginning of the Winter Olympics on Feb. 12. NBC wants Leno to do an 11:35 p.m. show each night, a return to his old time slot, Gaspin said.

Gaspin said despite lower ratings for NBC at 10 p.m. compared with last year, the network was making money off the show.

But affiliates were upset that the show was leading fewer viewers into their late news programs, costing them significant advertising revenue. Some affiliates told NBC in December they would go public soon about their complaints if a change wasn't made, or even take Leno's show off the air.

"The drumbeat started getting louder," Gaspin said.

Gaspin has proposed moving Conan O'Brien's "Tonight" show to 12:05 a.m., and Jimmy Fallon's show would start an hour later. But the late-night hosts had not agreed to the move. Gaspin said he expected NBC's late-night situation to be cleared up by the start of the Olympics.

Asked if O'Brien and Fallon expressed anger at his proposal, Gaspin said both men were professional and understanding when they talked.

Despite doing a decent job on his show lately, Fallon has no leverage and will have to accept being moved a 1/2 hour later. I'm sure he's just glad to still be on TV anyway.

The one's really stinging from this have to be Leno and O'Brien. Part of me thinks that at least one of these guys will bolt, and it just may be Leno.

The best thing to do is combine the 2 shows. NOW that would be MUST_SEE_TV!
Leno & Conan both telling jokes at the sametime, sitting next to each other behind a desk trying to get in THEIR question to a guest. The 2 band leaders trying to kill each other in a little skit each night (Like Mad magazines "SPY vs. SPY). This show would be a hit!

Isn't there already a three or four page thread on this topic?

Even though I've never been a Jimmy Fallon fan dating back to when he was on "Saturday Night Live" in the early 2000s, I don't think he's going anywhere. It's the man who he replaced that might be on the way out, but likely a very rich man, and that's Conan O'Brien. The New York Post says that O'Brien will likely part company with NBC in the wake of this fiasco, but will still get some $40 million under terms of his contract regardless where he ends up working next.

I've read the name Jeff Gaspin over the last day or two, and I don't know if the current NBC bossman or if whoever gave the green light to push Jay Leno out, Conan in Jay's time slot and then Jimmy replacing Conan on "Late Night". That network executive who fixed what wasn't broken should also be shown the door. It was a dumb idea from the getgo, and right now, the bossman at NBC affiliate WHDH-TV in Boston & longtime Viacom Chairman Sumner Redstone are saying "I told you so..."

Heard on TMZ that Conan has the option of just sitting on his arse for four years and collecting the whole $80 million. I'd do it.

so if he sits on his ass collecting the money and is technically a nbc employee, can he at least go back to his old job of writing some material for snl

Conan O'Brien recently moved his own family & staff out to Los Angeles to coincide with what he thought was his dream job following in the footsteps of Jay Leno, the late, great Johnny Carson & Jack Parr hosting the "Tonight Show". In my opinion, as much as NBC would like to keep Jay & Conan following its coverage of the upcoming Winter Olympics in Vancouver, I don't think it's going to work. Besides, there are two other names nobody's talking about. You think Jimmy Fallon, Conan's successor on "Late Night", and "Last Call" host Carson Daly like the idea of starting their own shows at 12:05a & 1:05a respectively? :? I doubt it...

I saw Kimmel's rip job. ABC should move Oprah reruns AND nightline and start him at 10:30.

this is like a jeff bridges acid trip... every day for the last two weeks i grow more and more skeptical that this is actually happening. conan just didnt have a contract- he proved for 16 years that he is the best talk show host there is. what nbc has done is nothing short of miraculously stupid. leno will continue to draw his 5 million viewers, and conan will do to fox late night what the simpsons did to fox for primetime. and remember, conan wrote for the simpsons in the beginning- so when its all said and done, conan obrien will be responsible for creating the most profitable tv from 6pm-11:30pm... think about that! i hope nbc goes bankrupt and dissolved.

no fuckin way. he doesnt give a shit about the money, trust that. he would do his job if he had to pay them $100 a week. this is about respect and righteousness. ideally he gets on fox before people stop feeling sympathetic for him (might not ever happen though!), but fox is probably frantically clearing out their syndicated contracts nationwide right now and itll take some time. even if its 6 months or a year that time will probably be part of conans termination agreement with nbc anyway, where he cant work on tv until that time has passed.
