'Three Stooges' coming together

Nyuk-nyuk-nyuk.

MGM and the Farrelly brothers are finally slapping together their high-profile cast for "The Three Stooges," a comedy project the filmmakers have been developing for years. Sean Penn is set to play Larry, and Jim Carrey is in negotiations to play Curly. Benicio del Toro is a rumored possibility for the brothers' taciturn leader, Moe.

The studio is looking to start production in the fall for a 2010 release slot.

I think this movie could be hilarious if they gave it the "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" treatment. Remember the "movie" based on Pee Wee's adventure at the end of "Big Adventure (with James Brolin and Morgan Fairchild)?"

Maybe it's the booze talking, but I think that seeing the stooges as over-acted and suave would be pretty damn funny.

i dunno, i guess if i was in the mood for the 3 stooges, id watch the 3 stooges, not watch sean penn, jim carrey and benicio del toro act like the 3 stooges.

i have enjoyed some of the farrelly brothers movies though. i just have a bad feeling about this one.

i think it could be very funny if they set it in the 1930s and not modern times.

I dunno how I feel about this at all. The original lineup of the stooges still crack me up (especially if I'm buzzed :drunken: :jocolor: ) but IMO the real essence of their act was actually those specific actors - that's why when they trotted out Shemp or Joe, it just wasn't the same. Jim Carrey as Curly? Hmmm...

Jim Carrey cannot be Curly.

Michael Chilkis from "The Shield" did bulk up to play "The Thing" in the "Fantastic Four" movies, and he's bald...I like that idea! :D

Didn't Michael Chickles already play Curley in a made-for-TV movie about their lives?

You might have a point there, Colonel...I vaguely remember a made-for-TV movie about the Stooges, but this is a big screen movie we're talking about here. I'm not sold on who's reportedly being cast...

What network was it on SHARK? "The Peacock"

RogersPark, I thought it was on ABC...Unfortunately, they don't make as many made-for-TV movies as they used to. The likes of Lifetime, DIRECTV 252, Lifetime Movie Network at 253, ABC Family at 311 and Hallmark Channel at 312 have all become synonymous with such movies these days...

No. Carrell doesn't have the personality. He would have to try too hard and that would be epic fail.

That's the way I feel about the whole rumored cast. They need to just dump the whole idea.

they are all 3 good *actors* though. steve carrell isn't a great actor, he's a good performer and improv-er. he has one level of character, and that's to be self-unaware and dumb. this even goes back to his second city days. he's a one-note actor. no range.

penn, del toro, and carrey have all shown range as actors. i just don't understand the concept.

i'd rather see more on this before i make a judgment.

I think the word you're looking for is "improvisor".

i don't like that word to describe someone who "improvs". "improvisor" is too close to "supervisor". and improv is an art. supervising isn't. :) :?

I can only think back to when Jeff Daniels was slated to star in a little flick called "Dumb & Dumber." I thought he would never pull it off and was pleasantly surprised (the scene where he nails Lauren Holly with a snowball from 3 feet away stills cracks me up every single time I see it)!

I whole-heartedly disagree.
His style on "The Office" fits in with his role on "The Daily Show".
I his role in "Anchorman" differed greatly from his performance in the "40-Year-Old Virgin". That first role was played more for laughs, while his role in Virgin had some depth to it.
I was also impressed with his performances in "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Dan in Real Life". That movie featured an over-acting ass, but that was Dane Cook.
Carell can pull things off in an understated way.

his "performance" in "little miss sunshine" was just a notch down from his usual schtick.

i'm not saying the guy can't act. but he definitely could not pull off moe.

This whole concept fucking blows. Does Hollywood have no original ideas?
Hey, let's piss on some more graves in an effort to hide the fact we now have no creativity. Yeah, that the ticket.
We are fucked as a country and a civilization.
