Thanks first of all to Donspiracy for giving me the heads up on this event. It happened tonight.

LIVE was a special "broadcast" event, to over 400+ theatres all over the country, at 7pm. It was coming from Nashville, TN and streamed everywhere else. Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett, and Kevin Murphy were there along with musical guest Jonathan Coulton (he played "RE: Your Brains" and "The Future Soon"). They did a short, "Flying Stewardess", and then the colorized (ahem, elmhurst steve) version of "Plan 9 From Outer Space".

It was a fun time. The crowd was definitely a bunch of geeks, like me, and my buddy who is not so much of a geek but enjoys geek things...we all enjoyed it. There were a few problems with the streaming in the beginning but after that it was smooth sailing.

Also the guy from Somethingawful.com did a few short films that were meant to be "sponsored" commercials. The funniest was the first, which was a monster-jam like ad for a Silo Expo in Kansas City. A lot of hilarious random scenes intercut within, and it was just funny to hear that bombastic voice talk about grain and wheat.

Over all it was fun. The Coulton bits in the middle were a bit stifling if you didn't know who he was; which for some reason, most of the audience didn't. I knew both of the songs, but dared not sing along...I was not that guy.

I hope they do something like this again--it was worth the 12.50 for the experience!
