If there is one thing that I would consider myself a "fanboy" of, its 80's slasher movies, mainly the Big 3 (Friday the 13th, Halloween, and Nightmare on Elm Street).....I was even thinking of going tonight at some midnight showings but I decided to wait until tomorrow.

I'm also going to check out Final Destination before the weekend is up.

i thought final destination was coming out in september...?

anyhow, yeah i'm stoked about both of these. final destination has been my favorite horror franchise since child's play...which i guess...revolve around the same time. somewhat.

I'm just glad Rob Zombie did these new Halloween flicks. He keeps atmosphere of the original movies and brings an edge to em. I like this guys movies. I thought House of A Thousand Corpses and The Devil's Rejects were awesome as well.

LOVED Devil's Rejects!

This and District 9 are playing at my local drive-in theatre but it's too freaking cold and windy today.

i saw it today and was less than impressed. in fact, if i were a *professional* critic, as much as i like zombie, i would put him through the ringer for this one.

there are some good scenes, but overall the movie is very drab and somewhat pointless. it's everything i was pretty much fearing about a sequel that really didn't need to be made. it really was a cash-in. there's just about every cliche in the book including extenuated dream sequences, the guy-helping-the-girl-moments-before-being-stabbed scenes, the hillbillie standoff scenes in which they threaten to kill Myers right before getting killed themselves, etc. Plus the most irritating was the creation of this "white horse" symbol that myers creates in his head along with his dead mother. it is very trite.

there is a death scene that actually really affected me; it was probably one of the most heartbreaking death scenes i've seen in a slasher film.

but that's really all this is. and the kills aren't even all that great. there is a LOT of blood, and a lot of violence. I'm really kind of surprised this escaped an NC-17 rating. I'm sure there will be an unrated DVD but i don't know what could've been worse that he had to edit out.

I guess if you're a fan and you want to see it, I'd recommend it. But if you're dubious, just skip it until you can rent it or torrent it or whatever.

:D :D out of :D :D :D :D

Did Jason kill a guy who was writing the script for Final Destination 6?

The wife wanted to see this, so we went yesterday. Let me preface this
by saying I am not much of a horror movie fan. I found the first 15-20
minutes to be edge of your seat scary, at least for me. After that it seemed
to fall into the usual horror movie formula. I'll admit that I am usually more
inclined to see a "thriller" rather than a "slasher" type movie so maybe that is
why I found that last hour or so to be a bit predictable. There was a lot of
symbolism in there that didn't seem to be necessary, but I think Zack touched
on that. I would have to agree with his assessment and wait for it on DVD or
other media. Only reason I found it ok was that we did a $5 matinee.

it's also the first movie directed by zombie that did not resonate with me at all. i've already forgotten about half of it.

I agree with a lot of what Zack said. I saw it on Friday. Yeah the first 20 minutes were pretty good, I was thinking in my head "Yeah this is what a modern day horror film should be"...

As I said earlier, I'm an admitted fanboy so I'll probably own this on DVD when it comes out but I don't think anyone can ever re-capture the 80's slasher films.
