My father-in-law recently bought a 55" TV and a blu-ray player. He can't figure out how to hook up the player. He drove an hour to the nearest large city and asked the clerk at the store if he would come and connect it. The clerk said it would cost 5000 pesos (like $400). He won't let anyone else touch it (though he'll let me set it up when I go there in a few weeks).

I suppose if you have your own home theater or are absolutely anal about the picture quality - go ahead and blow the cash. I own two Blu Ray DVDs and really do not see myself purchasing many more (I don't even own that many standard DVDs). My father-in-law doesn't even watch TV, and Blu Rays are not widely available in Mexico. I get to go down next week and fix the Blu Ray, teach my mother-in-law how to use a computer, and set up Skype and Sightspeed for them (and a wireless router).
