A movie reboot of the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" franchise is in the works and will be based on a screenplay by Whit Anderson.

Heroine Buffy Summers has been a cult figure since the franchise first hit the big screen in 1992. The original movie starred Kristy Swanson and was written by Joss Whedon, the same man who transformed the character into the cult classic "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" TV series, which ran for seven years and starred Sarah Michelle Gellar.

It was recently announced that Warner Bros. will revive the character with the help of Anderson, who penned the 2008 Jim Carrey movie "Yes Man."

Anderson is more than aware of the pressure that comes along with reviving something that devoted fans hold so dearly, especially since she was herself a huge fan of the television show. The young screenwriter had nothing but kind words for the original series and talked to the LA Times about her intentions.

"I didn't really watch much television at all," Anderson said, "But I always watched "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." That was the one show I would watch when I got home. I just loved this character. I was the same age as Buffy, and it was so rare to have a female lead character on TV in those days who was strong and capable and smart but also allowed to be feminine."

While the die-hard fans might already be considering their protests, some major Hollywood players have already voiced their support of Anderson's new story. Charles Roven, one of the producers of "Batman Begins," called Anderson's take "compelling" and said that her reimagining of the show is a "completely new reboot."

Anderson, a graduate of Northwestern University, seems to have no problem wrapping her head around the premise and character of Buffy. She wants to make the story relevant in today's world while still respecting the character's personal struggle.

"The deep struggle she had with duty and destiny, that tug between what you're supposed to be doing and what you want to be doing," she said. "The fate of the world is on her shoulders, but some days she wakes up, and she just doesn't want to do it. And are we doomed and destined to love someone? That conflict was very interesting to me."

And while there is already some behind-the-scenes talent attached to the project, there have been no announcements as to who will take on the title role. There were rumors last year that Megan Fox was being considered for the role, but producer Roy Lee told IGN Entertainment that they have yet to begin casting.

Not even letting Joss do it makes this total bullshit. Megan Fox come on Buffy needs to show not only strength but smarts.Who they gonna get for Angel,I do not even want to think about that.
