I know there is a thread somewhere regarding this series but am too lazy to look it up.
I just picked up season one on DVD and will be starting it shortly. I have high hopes.

I really liked this series. 3 measly seasons was not enough dammit. Al Swerengen is a hell of a charcter

Great show. It's a shame HBO never gave them a chance to wrap up the story.

Series was great and Ian McShane just absolutely tore it up playing Al Swearengen

i didn't like the third season's conclusion; thought they did too much build up and the payoff was subpar. but i loved the dialog. as pretentious as it was, "deadwood" was a very cool show.

+1.

Show was great, but the way it ended and the third season in general put a sour taste in my mouth and detracted from the entire experience. Also, HBO promised a movie in order to properly wrap things up and they of course never delivered on that promise.

All in all, the show is a much better example of what a horrible job HBO does in running its original content department as opposed to simply a great series. The show was derailed because HBO spent so much time nickel and diming the cast during contract negotiations that the entire cast said fuck you and went and signed with other projects rather than wait around for a 4th season to finally happen.

And then Ian McShane went on to star in that dumbass Kings show on NBC.

A great 3 seasons and decent assessment of the ending by our resident movie experts. Even with the crappy ending it was still better than most of what we are stuck watching on TV at present. Loved watching the show and then re-watching with the artist commentary. McShane was hilarious. A couple others not so much. The cast also was quite disappointed in the way the show wrapped up.

Got through the first half of season 1 this weekend and I like the show a lot.
I am wondering the best way to see seasons 2 and 3 without purchasing them.
I bought this first season as an impulse buy since I have been bored at home
and TV in the summer absolutely stinks.

The ending did suck, but that wasn't supposed to be the ending of the show. The plans were for it to continue the storyline with at least another season, but as Shakes said, HBO fucked up and all the actors ended up moving on.
