So when we live in a day and age when you can fuck with "Star Wars" more than George Lucas (somehow it's possible), you get some interesting results. "The Phantom Edit" ("phantom menace" with all jar jar scenes removed) comes to mind first...
But last year someone went through the film, including old deleted scenes that had a lot more to do with Luke's back story with his buddy Biggs, made an edit of the first "Star Wars" film with a "grindhouse" flavor to it.
So there's blood when the Storm Troopers are shot, or anyone dies. There's ridiculous music in the soundtrack. The plot takes forever to thicken. And Darth Vader sometimes sounds like a jive talkin' blacksploitation villain.
Not all of it works...for some reason the guy threw in a clip of "Troops", a parody of "Cops", in which Storm Troopers are arresting Jawas...it just seemed extremely out of place.
Some of the dialog of Darth Vader doesn't work because the voice isn't augmented correctly (the guy just took dialog bits from other james earl jones movies).
But overall, it is pretty fun to watch. And the guy does a great job in many ways making this "grindhouse"-like.
If you find the time and can get a copy of this, I recommend watching it. It's only an hour and a half long.
