I saw a poster for this at the movie theater this weekend. Is there any chance this is good beyond just a run of the mill vampire flick?

The book was pretty good. If the movie sticks to it it should be pretty good. The book played it totally straight and it read like a biography. My fear is that the movie tries to make it a comedy when the comedy came from acting like it was real.

If the movie focuses on the first two-thirds of the book: :thumleft:
If the movie focuses on the last third:
I have a friend who worked on the make-up special effects for that movie, they look cool.

I'd love to tell you this movie was awesome...I really would...

...alas, it was merely decent. I was mildly entertained but I really hoped for more from this. I actually found myself more interested in the "normal" parts of the movie than I was in the parts where he was hunting vampires.

I liked it. It didn't nearly go into the depth of the story that the book does but then again not too many people would want to see this as a 5 hour movie. There were also 2 main characters in the book, Abe and Henry. The movie took some of the bit players and made them more of the story instead of people Abe encounters throughout his timeline. It was still good though.

the vampire genre has been...erm...sucked dry.

the mockbuster version of this, "abram lincoln vs. zombies", looks a lot more entertaining, although that genre has also been...erm...beaten to death.

The director Timur Bekmasomething f/ Khazikstan is actually pretty entertaining with only the mild budgets he's worked with. 'Wanted' was actually much better than I thought it would be. Even going as far away f/ the graph novel as they did, the movie is very memorable... Now, people who enjoy foreign films should check out Timur's breakthrough films f/ Russia... Specifically 'Night Watch'... The guy has a knack for the physics of an action scene...

...All that being said, Im only halfway interested in this film... Also the Spielberg version of Lincoln w/ DDL playing Abe should be Oscar worthy to say the least.

I enjoyed the first 75% of the movie, then it got a little too Transformerish... Noise, CGI and nonsense.

I think I need to see this again.

They should have shown the Batavia Asylum where Mary Todd really resided and not her actually doing something to kill the vampires. This could have opened up an entire new Zombie plot for the sequel.

too much common gateway interface? Nonsense, it may be a wittle bit slow, but there can never be too much...

Just watched it and was pleasantly surprised. I was way more entertained than I thought I would be. Best part, 10 minutes into it and my wife said "this is already better than any of the Twilght movies".
