Anyone watching besides me? Through the first few episodes I would say it's better than season 5, which was the worst outside of the Jimmy Smits season. The big baddies are being played by Colin Hanks and Edward James Olmos. Mos Def--now known as Mos, which was news to me--is playing an interesting character. Sort of a reformed criminal who has turned to God. Faith and religion is the recurring theme for this season. I'm convinced Olmos' character isn't real and that Hanks is sort of Dexter's opposite, with Olmos being in the Harry role as the mentor.

Seen the first episode, only. Agree about Olmos.

Is it just me, or does Vince's intern have a little cross-eyed thing going on?

Oh, she looks like she's there for the evidence. Take stuff home and play with 'em.

Until she decides that Miami's murderers are not killing the... right... sort of victims. So she sets forth to obtain the right sort of victims. They find bodies with missing the lower arm-hands. Meanwhile a deep-freeze freezer gets more full.

Great call. I never thought of that before you brought it up.

The blonde intern was on Heroes and sucked on that show, too.

To me, season 2 (when the boss found out about Dexter and got blown up in the house by the swamp) and the Lithgow season have been the best. Until they set an end date, I know Dexter will get out of whatever situation he gets himself into, which takes away from the suspense of the show. Still a good show, but I need a new angle like Deb finding out about his dark passenger. That would be cool.

In the books, she does know.

Honestly, my mind confuses what happened in the books and show, so this may be off slightly, but she finds out during the "ice truck killer" story when the killer wants Dexter to help him kill Deb and she wakes up during it as Dexter is struggling with what to do.

Agreed on the Lithgow season being the best one. And yes Deb did find out in the first book of the series. I've read rumors on the interwebios she may finally discover Dexter's secret this season.

Sorta thought she knew last year, allowing Dexter to escape from one of his play sites.

These first few episodes are weak. But its typical of Dexter for them to tighten the vice grip towards the end of the season. The way he found/dealt with the Tooth Fairy... Other years that'd be the season's recurrent villain.

So is Edward James Olmos a ghost or not? There was evidence either way last night. First the obvious, the police are looking for him and he used to be a teacher somewhere. But, they said he went off the grid 3 years prior and no one has seen him since...plenty of time for him to die I guess.

When Travis was at the diner hitting on the waitress I noticed that she came over and only addressed Travis and didn't even look at or say anything to Olmos. Also, it looked like Olmos had nothing in front of his seat at the diner in the way of silverware or a drink.

Also, when the girl was tied up in Travis' kitchen she only looked at Travis and didn't even acknowledge Olmos who was standing to her left.

My guess is he died in the last few years and is now mentoring Travis the way Dexter's dad mentors him.

I think he's a ghost mentor like Dexters dad.

However, with the girl tied up when he woke up and Dexters comment about the neat planning combined with aggressive, rough butchering of the victims suggesting a pair of killers, I think that hank's character "blacks out" when he actually harming the people and he loses his calm demeanor.

Yeah probably some Jekyll and Hyde thing. What was with the completely random marijuana smoking session between Quinn and Angel?

I was totally cringing when Quinn was at the bar with the woman from the college. What an idiot. And for Angel to not drag him away was ridiculous, too.

And couldn't Colin Hanks see Dexter in the rearview mirror?

I find myself watching the show so I don't miss anything instead of being entertained by it.

Yeah it's getting bad again. Quinn has always been an awful character. Why are he and Dexter suddenly friends after Quinn suspected him in Rita's murder last year? Now they went and shot Mos Def. His character is the best thing about this season. Doesn't appear as if he is dead from the previews for next week. Too much Deb in this episode. And the hot intern is off the show. Lame.

I liked the American Gothic imagery as Dexter and his ghost/brother stood in front of the picture in the barn, with Dexter holding the pitchfork.

Now, let me see if I can recap this. Abducted woman who Tom Hanks Jr. let go tells Miami Metro that there were two people involved with her abduction. But the woman was blindfolded and didn't see either of them so perhaps Hanks Jr. was undergoing a split personality type thing and used two voices. Hanks Jr. takes all of Stand and Delivers stuff, including a graduation picture of the two of them, to the abandoned church where the religious zealotry shenanigans takes place and leaves it with Stand and Deliver. Then, Hanks Jr is shown at his sister's place with the very same photo. So, he imagined the trip to the church? In the previews for the next episode Dexter's narration reveals Hanks Jr. has his own dark passenger but unlike Dexter's Hanks' can be killed, implying Stand and Deliver is real.

Better still: the long lost brother Brian is back, but he too is a ghostly character. I say, bring back the mother and she can fight Brian. Then bring back Rita, because, what the hell?

Call me sportsfan.

The show ended in a cliffhanger this week. OH HOW HEART PALPITATING. I think there's also this subplot this season of brothers and sisters. Travis killed his sister. Jonah kills his mother after his sister commits suicide. Batista's sister has been a big part of the season. And Dexter's relationship with his sister Deb is deteriorating. Methinks Deb will finally find out Dexter's secret.

good call on almos' character...hanks is a real bad actor..i have only seen him in 2 or 3 things and he sucked in all of them...this season is bad and so was last season...this series has gotten progressively worse since the black cop was killed in the swamp...the whole constant serial killer man hunt being led by his sister is stale and weak..the lumen character was awful.

There are several shark-jumps this season: everyone thinking he's a stud at the reunion, the picking up of the chick there. The road trip to Wyoming, including the gratuitous servicing of the girl at the convenience store.

That Deb hasn't figured out what Dexter is by now is simply incredible. I would wonder about him, given that his brother does a marry/murder attempt on her, he's always out of the office doing... something... and really? All those sheets of plastic? Is he like a house painter on the side?

I agree that Doakes was a high point, but also a low point. Doakes himself was simply tiresome. He was just there to keep some pressure on Dexter. Now we turn to, how can Dex keep ahead of the cops while he and they compete on the same case?

(And the answer is easy: fake a killing like the mass-murderer du jour is doing, along with false clues/red herrings for the cops to follow. Thus allowing Dexter to continue to pursue said mass-murderer. And really: if Harry's Code says to be low-profile, why compete against the cops to bring the same mass murderer they're looking for down? Go after a different one! The shark will have been jumped when the cops, following one of the red herring clues, happens to show by accident at one of Dexter's crime labs...)

All in all, the books are still better. And Rita's kids have dark passengers. And Dexter's job is to hide all of them from Rita and the cops, while still doing good deeds..

So anyway, Olmos is in the freezer. Except we see him walking around. Dexter sees him. Hanks is as good an actor as Lumen and as Deb's former BF. Meaning I agree with you. We need more people with Lithgow's chops...

Previews for next week hinted at a possible intimate moment between Dex and Deb. Everyone's doing incest these days. Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, and now Dexter.

Creepy intern guy possibly setting up to be next season's villain? I'm also thinking he has been tracking what Dexter has been doing on his computer since he showed him the new search engine. Finale next week.

Next week: Capt Matthews. Intern revealed to be hooker's son. Dexter and sis decide to move to Montana, where they pose as husband and wife. Mazuka takes over mass murderer role. Gets caught immediately when he shows up to work in a nonstop giggle fit. By the first intern. Meanwhile, Miami PD wonders why their HQ is always shown as a waterside hotel.

And what's with Dexter blacking out?!?

Little boy goes to live with Batista and sister, also doing touchy-feely. A shark is shown jumping several cars, on a motorcycle. Fin.

Since this show has gone off the deep end I wouldn't be surprised if somehow Harrison saves his father by killing Tom Hanks Jr. You see all three of them together in a climactic scene with Dexter passed out from supposedly injecting himself with his own needle.
