I know theres a thread somewhere in here of it already but Im too lazy to find it. Watching it for the 50th time on AMC tonight and a thought just occurred to me during Andy's break-out scene. The fucking guy plans his escape down to the very last detail, hatches the plan over 20 years, digs his tunnel and bides his time waiting for the right night. So the best fucking thing he can come up with to break through the sewer pipe is a fucking rock? Would've stung the hell out of his hand smashing it against that pipe like that. Cmon dude, you couldn't get your hands on another fucking hammer or something?

Hammer would have been the wrong sound and too loud. The rock blended perfectly with the thunder.

...and why has this been on every night for the last week?

Well he could've used something to dampen the noise .

It worked not because of the height but because they were both obtuse.

Actually, Tim Robbins is 6'5" and the warden in 6'1". Plus the warden was a little heavier. He probably could have fit in the suit but it certainly wouldnt have looked so good on him. I cant find their shoe sizes.

There are lots of things that happen in movies that wouldn't occur in real life. For example, I've tried a few times, but I've never been able to depress my accelerator pedal with a Bowie knife.

All he needed to do was get done with 1 bank with that suit. After that, he could have bought new a new suit and shoes since he had cash.

That just shows that Dalton can do things most men can't

based upon the time period of the movie...the pipe would have likely been vitrified clay. a rock is perfect to break clay. if it was concrete (which i doubt) then it's not all that realistic.

That's a good point. I also hope that he took a real shower after getting all that money from the banks. I know he brought a bar of soap with him but he crawled through shit into a pond where the shit flowed into and then bathed in the rain. I'm guessing he still didnt smell too good that morning.

Looked more like cast iron pipe, to me.

cast iron pipe, non-cement lined...even less realistic to break it with a rock without waking the dead.

The American Humane Association monitored the filming of scenes involving Brooks' crow. During the scene where he fed it a maggot, the AHA objected on the grounds that it was cruel to the maggot, and required that they use a maggot that had died from natural causes. One was found, and the scene was filmed.

For the sewage tunnel sequence, Tim Robbins initially refused to immerse himself in the muddy water at the end of the pipe after a chemist tested the water and dubbed it lethal.

Boggs was acutally beaten within an inch of his life, that is why he no longer plays QB in the NFL.
