Felt obligated to pass this along. Not long ago I finished watching The Wire, did some digging and found that show's predecessor, The Corner. Total of six shows set in Baltimore. Some of the actors in The Wire have different types of roles in The Corner. Interesting to watch the characters in different roles, but that is not why I am typing this. The show is based on the nonfiction book The Corner: A Year in the Life of an Inner-City Neighborhood by David Simon and Ed Burns.
From my perspective, The Wire properly adapted this little show expanded it to the cops, docks, the kids, newspapers and gangs into a great long term show. The Corner captures the people stuck living in difficult circumstances in a way most people don't see or probably understand. Very good writing and acting (Khandi Alexander is awesome). It's pretty gritty stuff bordering on too authentic. Great drama, not really crime drama. I highly recommend it.
