This is a documentary on HBO. This is well worth checking out. It's fairly depressing though as it's basically just a bunch of stories of people who are struggling with being older and unemployed with not much hope.
I was left feeling pretty bad for the people, but also don't know really what can or even should be done.
One thing I will say is that at the age many of these people were, they should have had much more in savings than they did. I don't say this to be judgmental, but there is no excuse to be 50+ and a year unemployed puts you in foreclosure, especially if you worked in New York City with it's high salaries. In fact, they really shouldn't even have had a mortgage at all.
The big lesson for me here was that even if things are good, always save money so you can handle something like this. Many of the people in this documentary clearly did not.
